President Mnangagwa in his message to the War Veterans as he prepares for the 2023 election urged the War vets to display their Wartime Vibrancy and work towards mobilising more people to join the ruling party before the elections, New Zimbabwe reports.
President Mnangagwa said this while addressing the Zanu PF Central Committee members on Saturday when he said:
<blockquote>In our political mobilisation matrix, our women and youth leagues must not be left behind. I commend the Youth League for their recent successful mobilisation efforts.
However, much more needs to be done by the Youth League structures at provincial, district, branch and cell levels to encourage their peers to join the party as voters.
To this end, joint grassroots mobilisation activities between leagues of the party and its affiliate organisations must now saturate the political space.
War veterans are challenged to display their unflinching war time vibrancy and mobilisation acumen as we prepare for 2023 elections.</blockquote>
War Veterans have in the past <a href="https://www.thenewhumanitarian.org/report/13008/zimbabwe-ex-guerrillas-threaten-war">threatened to start a war</a> if the opposition wins the elections and if Zanu PF loses the elections.
The elections are still 28 months away and the government is yet to deliver a lot if not all of their 2018 election promises like better infrastructure, better healthcare, jobs and a better economy. The economy took a turn for the worse just after the 2018 elections and it is still to recover given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

LIVE: ED Launches 2nd Phase COVID-19 Vaccination Program In Victoria Falls

Popular Zimbabwean musician and activist, US-based Thomas Mapfumo has written a letter to US Congressional Black Caucus, African Union, Amnesty International, US State Department, European Union, United Nations, SADC, Black Lives Matter, South Africa’s ANC urging them to intervene to end the Zimbabwean crisis.
Mapfumo also warned President Mnangagwa and his administration to repent or perish in big-headed arrogance in the same letter he wrote and said:
<blockquote>My name is Thomas Mapfumo. I am a celebrated Zimbabwean musician and human rights activist and am now based in the USA. I have been using the music stage to advance my political activism and fight for social justice since 1975 when Zimbabwe was still Rhodesia.
Then, the country was ruled by Ian Smith a British descendant who advocated for white supremacy and the subjugation of the native majority of the people of Zimbabwe. We lived under oppression from 1890 up to 1980 when we got independent and President Robert Mugabe became the Head of State and Prime Minister.
Zimbabwe Early Years
Following his election into office, the economy and the political environment started deteriorating continually as the inherited economy started showing signs of neglect. The Prime Minister who in 1987 changed his title to President started ruling with an iron fist.
By 1990 his true colors of incompetence had manifested as he also started eliminating all potential enemies for power security. He persecuted many opposition members and some had to be killed. Fast forward the years, President Mugabe went on a series of failures that saw the economy and the infrastructure falling apart without any renovations or repairs
Added to that crisis was a series of scandals in government as well as appointments in high offices that came through the nepotism ticket. The quest for more power made President Mugabe build a fearsome central intelligence service that did not focus on national security as such. Instead it would focus on any potential opposition to the ruling ZANU PF party and the only action taken against opposition was to kill them.
The further declining conditions saw President Mugabe amassing more power as he increased his security while surrounding himself with his cronies for protection.  There were a number of effects that emerged with such kind of rule:

<li>The rule of law weakened to alarming levels</li>
<li>The economy made a drastic downfall</li>
<li>Inflation came in and worsened the cost of living</li>
<li>Citizen morale faded as disgruntlement started building up</li>
<li>Poverty and unemployment levels increased</li>
<li>With the indigenization of the economy, many good industries were destroyed by the warped nationalization scheme</li>
</ol>
To try to cure the looming issues President Mugabe pulled a card on the land issue as an excuse to try to win the waning support from the suffering and disgruntled public. The land was confiscated from the farmers on racial lines. All white farmers were displaced and promised some compensation that never came. Lives and assets were lost through the violent land seizures.
While some may have assumed that the land grab was justified to reverse the imbalance in ownership of land between the white minority race and the black majority, people were even more aggravated to realize that after the land was taken, President Mugabe and his cabinet acquired vast tracts of land for themselves as the majority was still without enough land.
President Mugabe himself had up to ten farms and his cabinet members owned multiple farms as the 99% were forgotten. To worsen the crisis, the new farm owners simply sat on the land and did not do much to farm and feed the nation
More food imports continued under President Mugabe as the new farmers stayed clueless on what to do with the land. Government tried some farming schemes like “Command Agriculture” but corruption came into the schemes and government funds were stolen without consequence.
President Mugabe would be also responsible for externalizing foreign funds and offshore investments in nations like Malaysia and Singapore where he invested in real estate as the nation suffered foreign currency crisis.
Amid all the anti-patriotic stances that President Mugabe took, his party was responsible for rigging elections and committing nationwide public violence where people got killed, maimed and lost property as they were being coerced to vote for the ZANU PF party.
Where the coercion did not work, voter suppression was the other tool ZANU PF used under President Mugabe. The ultimate strategy to keep President Mugabe in power was through election rigging mechanisms where for example even the deceased registry names were used to feed voter names for elections in favor of President Mugabe.
After the elections, President Mugabe had the tendency of sitting on the results as he took time to manufacture figures and forge statistics to declare himself the qualified winner. Such was his style that saw him rule Zimbabwe for 37 years as the nation fell into deeper crisis.
The Coup in 2017
As the situation seemed endless and desperate to be under a power hungry Robert Mugabe, people wanted some intervention. In November 2017, Emmerson Mnangagwa led a coup in Zimbabwe that toppled President Robert Mugabe. People who were weary of national oppression supported the takeover as a possible option to end Robert Mugabe’s life presidency.
President Mnangagwa promised to end corruption within one hundred days, start re-building the country and seek accountability on public assets in national interest. He promised to be an honest and accessible man who would rule to develop Zimbabwe into a stable economy and democratic nation.
We the people embraced that and welcomed him as a potentially great leader who would act differently from President Mugabe who had mainly focused on personal wealth building and free speech suppression. President Mnangagwa went on to establish the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
Many parties welcomed the move and went on to provide leads for investigations on corruption. Even the Auditor General provided the government with evidence and leads. Lists of witnesses were provided. It was a matter of plug and play as many waited for action.
To every citizen’s surprise, the President and his ZACC developed cold feet. No one was arrested or tried. Many were caught and released as the state and the ZACC claimed “insufficient evidence”.  It became a public concern because many realized that the President himself and his family had a hand in most of the corruption happening in Zimbabwe. Accountability would be an uphill struggle.
Also, it became a concern that the citizens were sold a dummy in that the removal of President Mugabe was not for national good. It was a selfishly driven agenda that saw President Mnangagwa fulfilling his personal interests especially on the search for power and the acquisition of wealth. Many now realize that President Mnangagwa is a very selfish man and he will not listen to anyone.
Today, President Mnangagwa continues to practice corruption and he pays lip service to efforts on stopping corruption. It’s even more aggravating because his family members and close friends including cabinet members are at the front of most of the corruption scandals that are milking the national coffers.
The impact of government-sponsored corruption has been that:
<ol>
<li>The economy is dying due to lack of incentive to promote commerce or trade</li>
<li>People continue to languish in poverty because they cannot afford basics</li>
<li>There are no jobs for people to generate income for survival since industries are dead</li>
<li>National assets like minerals are now being parceled among the President, his close friends and family as they divide the wealth with China Government</li>
<li>The President has allowed China to come in to mine minerals of interest and the profits made therefrom are not accountable before parliament. As China continues to milk the national assets of Zimbabwe including wildlife, the President has become part of the exploiting team because he is mortgaging national assets for personal gain.</li>
<li>While nations like America pour in aid funds for aspects like HIV, Malaria and various other humanitarian causes, China, the trusted friend by the President does not do any of that. Instead we have seen our situation as Zimbabwe so compromised and exploited to the frustration of the entire nation at large.</li>
<li>The President is breeding more corruption due to government lack of inertia to implement measures to criminalize corruption and have culprits processed through the criminal justice system.</li>
<li>The President has openly failed to condemn corruption because his hand is in most of the scandals so he finds it hard to condemn because his hands are tied.</li>
<li>The absence of the rule of law and general lawlessness in society could a seed for more issues on peace and stability in Zimbabwe.</li>
<li>The arbitrary use of force by the police to quell bread riots or any protests against corruption has been deplorable.</li>
</ol>
Sanctions on Zimbabwe versus Government Leadership Corruption
The sanctions in Zimbabwe were triggered by the abuse of human rights and the breakdown of rule of law. The President is fully aware of that but his propaganda to the illiterate folks nationwide is that some unpatriotic people are persuading nations like the USA and the UK to punish Zimbabwe for taking over land from white farmers.
The West has nothing to lose or gain from the land issue in Zimbabwe. In any case, the prime poison to economic growth in Zimbabwe has been the rampant corruption that’s enabled by the Government leadership.
Then nothing has been done to improve the rule of law in Zimbabwe. The judiciary has been captured and the courts now issue partisan judgements in favor of ZANU PF. People get abducted every now and then. Recently activists like Hopewell Chin’ono got arrested as activists like Joanah Mamombe, Alan Moyo and others were imprisoned without cause.
Land seizures continue to happen as people lose property rights without recourse to the courts of law. Police has become corrupt and many criminals aligned with the President are immune from prosecution. The superior courts of law now fall under a partisan Chief Justice who now controls all the judgements from the courts as he must know the outcomes pending court sittings.
In other words, High court and Supreme Court judgements are now subject to calibration by the Chief Justice who must make sure the judgements do not pin down members of ZANU PF or any close connections. As a result of this bleak picture, Zimbabwe has lost the rule of law.
So many people are languishing in jail without proper trial and some have been sentenced to life without option of parole. Some are just kept in detention for too long with no trial and this is the same country begging for removal of sanctions. The solution is clear, the government of Zimbabwe needs to reform or it will perish in big headed arrogance.
Now that President Mnangagwa is now part of the corruption cabal, he spearheads the propaganda that the sanctions are the ones causing Zimbabwe to suffer as he tries to sweep corruption scandals under the carpet.
It’s a truism that corruption in Zimbabwe is draining away millions of dollars monthly from national coffers into private pockets. Such funds could be used to re-build industry and revamp the economy. By end of day the corruption is hurting Zimbabwe nine times more than sanctions would hurt Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe cannot be seen begging for aid from other nations while abusing its funds in national coffers. It is not making sense to let a few individuals steal millions of dollars from the Reserve Bank as the nation continues to rely on foreign aid.
The President of Zimbabwe should realize his priorities and also keep in mind that the resources in Zimbabwe if fairly administered can surely turn the economy around. We cannot have a situation whereby foreign aid is the only way to build when money in our reserve bank awaits fraudulent activity.
Opposition Forces
It has also become clear that President Mnangagwa plans to have a one party state in Zimbabwe. He has invested into a number of mechanisms to harass members of the opposition, to infiltrate them using state resources and to disempower and intimidate them.
Currently a number have been persecuted and more are on the list. Free speech is now out of reach as many live in fear of being followed or abducted in the open. It is a very dangerous environment now if one tries to belong or to identify with the opposition.
The courts and the armed forces now openly identify with the ruling party leaving the opposition members compromised and unsure of exercising their rights to belong to parties of choice. It is an unsafe environment filled with fear, intimidation, persecution and the potential to be sent to prison for any offense aligned with opposing or criticizing the current government.
Those who have tried to oppose the government have been arrested in the past and the trends continue like that. This is not the Zimbabwe we entered at independence. We are now living in a full swing dictatorship where our civil liberties are at risk.
SOS Message to Global Entities
To the following organizations:
The US Congressional Black Caucus, African Union, Amnesty International, US State Department, European Union, United Nations, SADC, Black Lives Matter, ANC (South Africa):
We write to kindly seek immediate international intervention and diplomatic pressure on Zimbabwe Government to stop a rising crisis in the country. The people of Zimbabwe continue to suffer under selfish leadership without any promise for the restoration of lives with dignity.
The proliferating corruption that is sponsored by the government remains an eyesore to the nation. People are drinking sewer water. Urban city transit systems are dying and yet the government puts blame on the opposition. Hospitals are ill-equipped. Industries are at a standstill and yet the government continues to steal public funds for selfish gain.
The government has gone rogue, throwing millions of people into refugee status among regional and international countries. Driving that crisis is a Head of State who has openly embarked on a national asset grabbing spree as the country continues to suffer. Please help us put pressure on President ED Mnangagwa to accelerate reform and be able to partner with others to open doors for proper governance and promotion of free speech and the rule of law.
Immediate solutions to end the Zimbabwe crisis

<li>Holding free and fair elections monitored by independent international community nations</li>
<li>Pressuring the government of Zimbabwe to stop violence against opposition forces</li>
<li>The upholding of the rule of law through an independent judiciary</li>
<li>Assurance of the public that police and broadcasting services stop partisanship trends</li>
<li>The assurance for opposition political parties to be able to freely campaign and be on the ballot without fear for consequences.</li>
<li>A serious commitment for government to stop corruption and promote accountability through following the criminal justice system.</li>
<li>An engagement of the citizens of Zimbabwe at various social levels and demographics by authorities to understand the crisis in Zimbabwe and how to end it.</li>
</ul>
Conclusion
We pray that this crisis in Zimbabwe catches attention and gets a resolution because the people have suffered for 41 years under selfish leadership dragging the country down. We mainly appeal to big organizations and big nations to intervene on our behalf and ensure that justice and sanity prevails in government.
When we saw Mnangagwa use the coup to topple Robert Mugabe, we thought he was the solution. Takepemberera ngozi tichiti mudzimu. Little did we realize that Mnangagwa had his own agenda. He got into office to loot national assets and make himself powerful and fearful. He has no clue on what to do to improve the conditions in Zimbabwe. He has no plan to control his appetite for wealth greed or corruption.
Our people are suffering. They need clean water, hospitals, roads and refuse collection. People need food and jobs. Mnangagwa does not care about all that. Daily, the headlines are about catch and release. This is a scheme to release all fraudsters using Government power.
Those in leadership have no remorse or patriotism to help Zimbabwe. They ARE SELLOUTS BECAUSE it’s no longer about a better Zimbabwe but about themselves. What a sad situation in Zimbabwe after losing so many heroes!

Our People Are Suffering - Thomas Mapfumo Writes Diplomatic Letters To A Dozen Organisations About Zimbabwe

President Mnangagwa while addressing a POLAD meeting today debunked the previous notions by a health ministry official that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/25/mps-frontline-workers-ministers-to-be-vaccinated-first-govt/">MPs, ministers, and members of the security secto</a>r will be prioritized when it comes to vaccination.
President Mnangagwa said in due time the government will announce the roll-out plan and the elderly, Frontline workers, and people with preexisting conditions will be prioritised.
Said, President Mnangagwa:
<blockquote>Resources have been reserved for the procurement of more vaccines. Modalities are also in place to facilitate the private sector and other organisations to make contributions towards vaccine procurement.
Furthermore, a COVID-19 Vaccination Framework has been developed and finalised for the roll out of the vaccine. As I have previously highlighted, the first phase of vaccination will prioritise frontline workers, the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions. The vaccines shall be state funded and free.
We are further thankful that the surge of COVID-19 infections and deaths witnessed between mid-December 2020 and January 2021 is beginning to recede. This followed a second wave of infections which was more contagious and fatal.</blockquote>
The President has also said that he will update the nation on the COVID-19 restrictions next week.

Vaccines Will Prioritise Frontline Workers, The Elderly & Those With Preexisting Conditions - ED Says COVID-19 Rollout Strategy Complete

President Mnangagwa who is expected to appoint 3 cabinet ministers following the death of SB Moyo, Joel Biggie Matiza, and Ellen Gwaradzimba due to COVID-19 last month has reportedly tasked Obert Mpofu to collect CVs of Zanu PF MPs and Senators, The Zimbabwe Independent reports.
President Mnangagwa is reportedly planning to take the opportunity to also reshuffle his cabinet for reasons unknown and the reshuffling speculation has reportedly sparked fierce jostling in the ruling party.
An official that spoke to the publication on the condition of anonymity reportedly said a cabinet reshuffle was imminent:
<blockquote>It’s not a secret that there will be a cabinet reshuffle soon. The President, though keeping his cards close to his chest, has given a clear indication that he is not going to appoint gap fillers, but wants a cabinet
reshuffle. He also appears to be frustrated by the incompetences of some ministers</blockquote>
A politburo member reportedly said all MPs reportedly tendered in their CVs:
<blockquote>I haven’t seen this level of interest in ministerial appointments. People have been running around trying to fix things and lining themselves up for posts. As we speak, not one MP failed to submit his or her CV.</blockquote>
The President is reportedly considering a lot of people for various positions and speculation is rife in the Zanu Pf circles as to who might get which ministry.

ED Mulling Cabinet Reshuffle - Report

President Mnangagwa today took a jab at the US and said yesterday’s events prove the US has no moral ground to punish other countries for not upholding democracy. This was after Pro-Trump supporters protested at Capitol Hill and breached the barriers of the premises and disrupted a congressional meeting that was certifying electoral college votes.
The president who is on leave used his official Twitter handle and said:
<blockquote>Last year, President Trump extended painful economic sanctions placed on Zimbabwe, citing concerns about Zimbabwe’s democracy. Yesterday’s events showed that the U.S. has no moral right to punish another nation under the guise of upholding democracy. These sanctions must end

President Mnangagwa and his administration have been pushing for the unilateral removal of sanctions imposed on 37 companies and institutions and 84 individuals by the US. The US has set the conditions for the removal of sanctions which are yet to be met by the government.

President Mnangagwa said he was released from Khami Prison and ordered to go back home to Zambia where his parents were and he used the Victoria Falls bridge before he thanked the council for according him freedom of the city.

The Organisation of World Peace has posted the following article that speaks about life after Robert Mugabe who ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years on their website.
The organization noted President Mnangagwa’s election campaign promises and all the promises he made when he ascended to the highest office in the land at the back of a military coup that toppled his boss and long term friend.
<blockquote>The people of Zimbabwe were promised job creation, a thriving economy and human rights reforms after the military coup that ousted Robert Mugabe from power three years ago. After the coup, the Mnangagwa administration came to power and in a bid to differentiate themselves from Mugabe, the government pledged towards stabilizing the economy and ensuring democratic political processes. However, Zimbabwe is currently experiencing a rife economic crisis characterized by high inflation, food insecurity and rampant unemployment. The hardships have intensified under the pressures of the pandemic.
The deteriorating economy underpins the plethora of concerns regarding the situation in Zimbabwe. The hyperinflation can be traced back to the adoption of U.S. currency in 2009 which led the country to be vulnerable to international influences. After the Mnangagwa takeover, there were major cuts on government spending and austerity measures created financial hardship on the public. Currently, the inflation rate is at 800%, where more than 70% of the populous experience poverty. According to economist Victor Bhoroma, “The employment council points over 1.2 million formal jobs have been lost in the last 18 months.” The economic hardship is starkly reminiscent of the lives of Zimbabweans under the rule of Mugabe, thereby deeply undermining the confidence of the Mnangagwa administration.
Similarly, food insecurity and the lack of access to clean, drinking water is an extreme problem Zimbabwean society is facing. Last December, the World Food Programme stated 7.7 million people were food insecure. The situation has progressively worsened as a result of natural droughts, which have dried up the water reservoirs. The desperate search for water has led to thousands being forced to drink sewage water for survival. Moreover, during this crisis, women and young girls are most at risk as there have been reports of abuse at water boreholes. The lack of access to water and regulation by government officials has led to people staking claim over the water pumps, where they demand money or sexual favours for water.
Furthermore, pregnant women are forced to pay bribes to health staff to deliver their babies. The lack of funding and infrastructure has created an environment susceptible to corruption. The healthcare system has further deteriorated under the pressures of COVID-19 and according to the <a href="https://zimbabwe.unfpa.org/en/video/every-life-counts-ending-maternal-deaths-zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Demographic Health Survey (ZDHS 2015)</a> the estimated maternal mortality ratio (MMR) for Zimbabwe is 651 deaths per 100,000 live births. The right to healthcare is enshrined in the constitution of Zimbabwe which has led women launching a case to the city authorities to reopen medical clinics. The corruption and violation of rights exposes the weaknesses in the infrastructure of Zimbabwe. More significantly, however, it denotes the limits of the Mnangagwa administration to uphold their promises of safeguarding civil liberties for Zimbabwe.
Notwithstanding Mnangagwa’s efforts to differentiate itself from Mugabe, the political policies and actions regarding human rights of the populace has not seen substantial change. The undermining of liberty and freedom remain bound in legislation through the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA), in which freedom of press and speech are restricted. Moreover, despite, Mnangagwa committing to international re-engagement, there has been little engagement with the international community. Specifically, the United States and the European Union and other international bodies have criticized Mnangagwa for human rights abuses, however, all allegations have been denied.
For the people experiencing hardship in Zimbabwe, it is hard not to be sceptical. According to Chivedede, a resident of Zimbabwe, “I have not seen any change since Mnangagwa took over. In fact, things have gotten worse.” Hence, it is evident that despite promises of democracy and political and economic prosperity, there has been little in the way of tangible change for the lives of the people in Zimbabwe. However, in early August the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a wealthy business ally of Mnangagwa. Thereby, in the wake of economic downturn, the sanctions signify that international loans may be dependent on tackling corruption present in the governance which may incite change for the betterment of the people of Zimbabwe.</blockquote>

Speaking from his South African base, soon to be extradited former cabinet minister Walter Mzembi said President Mnangagwa was ill-treating him to the point of seizing his property and allocating them to himself and his family members, New Zimbabwe reports.
Speaking to the publication Mzembi reportedly said:
<blockquote>I have suffered immensely from his ill-treatment ranging from repossession of my farms, an attempt at my houses, repossession of my conditions of service vehicles. One of which I am told he personally allocated to himself and subsequently to a family member,</blockquote>
Mzembi said he was sceptical he will survived the continuous attack from President Mnangagwa’s administration because he is a cancer survivor:
<blockquote>I am not sure if anyone can survive health-wise from this assault which includes frequent bashing by state media just to mess my reputation. I am a survivor of cancer and he still wants to incarcerate me after declaring me an enemy of the state on two different occasions. So weaponising extradition treaties against opponents is just a step further from the harassment he has been meting out on me and others but our dispute is only political.</blockquote>
Mzembi said he tried to reach out to President Mnangagwa but to no avail:
<blockquote>My advice to Mnangagwa is he must unite Zimbabweans and stop this pursuit of citizens with differing opinions and political views to his. I reached out to him on the 27th November 2017, he snubbed me. I wrote to him in January 2018 and he replied with arrests. I reached out again to him in September 2018, he dispatched a Ferret team to abduct on the 19th of September. He has a consistent pattern of replying rapprochement with intense hostility”</blockquote>
Speaking about the possible extradition being organised by the state Mzembi said:
<blockquote>When he (Mnangagwa) ran away to South Africa in 2017, who extradited him? He had many criminal dockets that have since been shelved under his watch. He comes out to me as an angry president and that anger blinds him to perform state duties, principal among them is uniting Zimbabweans. So, I summed up my situation and concluded I was best away from home on a political sabbatical</blockquote>

President Mnangagwa, yesterday, while addressing the nation said the primary and secondary final year students were supposed to sit for their final examinations in November and December as planned, despite the fact that learners were last in school on 24 March 2020, ZimLive reports.
During his address President Mnangagwa said:
<blockquote>…The developed and approved guidelines that were put in place for the June 2020 examinations will be used for the holding of the final examinations in November/December.</blockquote>
The announcement is likely to be met with stiff hostility from parents and teachers as it places a lot of students at a disadvantage since they may be inadequately prepared to take their final examinations.

Mnangagwa said this while addressing mourners at his brother’s funeral in Kwekwe:

Mnangagwa who is called Ngwena(crocodile) has been fingered in the 1980s killings of Matabeleland people in a genocide known as Gukurahundi and he has over the last few years presided over a government that thwarts opposition protests with an iron fist despite describing himself as soft as wool.

Tanzanian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Professor Emmanuel Mbennah while in an interview with The Herald yesterday reportedly said the President is laying a solid foundation in making sure the country is restored to its past glory of being the jewel of Africa, The Herald reports.
Mbennah reportedly praised the president’s efforts in fighting corruption and said he is hardworking and progress-oriented:

I really commend President Mnangagwa for the works he is doing. He is focused on the progress of the country, obviously, the challenges are not few, but he is working very hard.
Some things that I can identify with Tanzania is the ardent fight against corruption. It does not matter who it is.
 If anyone is found on the wrong side of the law, action is taken, people are arrested and taken to court and that is very much what Tanzania has done especially during the tenure of President Magufuli.

Mbennah further urged Zimbabwe to rally behind the president and support his because he said they were seeing the signs of success:
<blockquote>My call to the people of Zimbabwe is to rally behind the President and support him because he means well for the country. He gives his best and success will come and we are already seeing the signs, but people of Zimbabwe including those in the opposition will have to support the President.</blockquote>
He also urged Zimbabweans to build Zimbabwe and he said some of the comments on social media were destructive to Zimbabwe:
<blockquote>My appeal to the people of Zimbabwe is build Zimbabwe, don’t pull it down, you don’t have another Zimbabwe. Building means building, you cannot be destroying one side and say you are building. Although Zimbabwe has spent heavily on boosting its arsenal, the country desperately needs a substantial financial bailout package to rescue the troubled economy.</blockquote>
The economy has nosedived over the last 18 months with inflation soaring to over 450% and the people’s purchasing power eroding every single day.

President Mnangagwa has relayed his Easter message in which he quoted the bible and urged families and friends that will gather to commemorate Easter to pray for the COVID-19 pandemic that has brought the world to its knees, The Anchor reports.
The president in his easter message said:

ED Qoutes The Bible & Urges Zimbos To Pray In His Easter Message

President Mnangagwa has today voiced his opinions about the skills set Zimbabweans posses and said the government should change strategy on supporting local institutions, New Ziana reports.
While speaking at a meeting of health professionals at the statehouse the president said:
<blockquote>However this pandemic to me has exposed government to realise that we sometimes spend time, effort and focus going outside the country when the skills and knowledge are inside the country.

The president also spoke about how universities are producing COVID-19 materials like sanitizers, professional protective equipment and masks to be used to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

This Pandemic Has Exposed The Govt To Realise That We Sometimes Spend Resources Going Outside The Country When The Skills & Knowledge We Need Are Here - ED

The President has expressed his confidence in the fact that COVID-19 will make Zimbabwe stronger as he expressed confidence in defeating the pandemic that has brought the world to its knees, New Ziana reports.
Here is a full text of what the president today concerning the COVID-19 pandemic:
<blockquote>The spirit to do everything possible within our means to contribute towards the mitigation against this pandemic, that is the spirit which is coming out, Ubuntu/Hunhu that is the spirit that is coming out,” he said.
I am grateful, keep the spirit; this is what makes Zimbabwe a solid nation in times of challenges and in times of plenty we stand together as a nation. I believe that we will emerge out of this pandemic and challenge stronger and even more united.
I am so grateful, I feel that I have lieutenants in the public sector and the private sector who are determined to see this country succeed. I think at the end of this period of the pandemic we shall emerge stronger in many aspects.
In my view we should not feel complacent because we have low figures, the indication is that as days go by, as weeks go by, we are likely to see an upsurge in Zimbabwe both in terms of infections and possibly also in terms of deaths. We so far have eleven infections in the country, of the eleven two have passed on, so it is important that every single citizen, every single entity in the private sector and in the public sector make an effort to contribute towards the mobilisation of equipment which will be used by our Ministry of Health and Child Care to mitigate against the devastating pandemic on us. Contributions are coming in both in cash and kind, everything is being received and documented nothing is deemed neither as small nor as big
Initially, we felt that we needed to import most of these materials from outside, we are pleasantly surprised and happy that most of these materials are now being produced locally. I believe that in a week or so production would have doubled or possibly tripled. We need to spread these resources countrywide so that all our nurses, a nurse in Chipinge, a nurse in Plumtree and so forth should have the same protection as the nurse here at State House or the nurse at Harare or Mpilo Hospital. We must be ready so that when it (the diseases) is fully upon us we are prepared.
At the end of the day there are companies who have changed their line of production to deal with this thing which they had never thought about, universities are now producing some of these materials which they had never thought about but now because of this pandemic these things are being produced.
This (pandemic) indeed has its bad aspect, but I see the silver lining of this pandemic, which is galvanising our people to do what they would not have done had this not happened, but I am not saying it’s a good omen to have pandemics, it is on us we have no choice and we should rise as a people to fight it in every possible manner</blockquote>

Zimbabwe Shall Emerge Stronger And More United After Defeating The Covid-19 Pandemic - ED

An undated video in which the president says democracy says you should join the masses (dead people) has gone viral on social media particularly on WhatsApp.
It is still not clear if the clip was taken out of context as the president was trying to make another point that was clipped off and not encouraging people to die or the president was flat out encouraging people to die.
The president has headlined for videos similar to this, last week he went viral after he claimed he offered a token to a family that would bring the first body to the mortuary he had built.

The president while addressing the Africa forum on sustainable development in Zimbabwe in Vic falls made a passionate plea to the international community to rally behind Zimbabwe and end the country’s isolation, The Zimbabwean reports.
During his address the president said:
<blockquote>Our five-year national development plans running up to 2063 will endeavour to achieve an upper middle-income status by 2030.
The need to remain alive to the shocks of drought and the impact of climate change through the necessary social safety nets cannot be overemphasised. We appeal for multilateral support to augment our efforts.</blockquote>
The president went on to say his government was implementing much-needed reforms and the funding gap remained low:
<blockquote>It should be understood that we are undertaking the reforms without the requisite external financial support as is the norm. It is regrettable that the funding gap for the sustainable development goals in Africa remains low and weighs down on the attainment of [the] SDGs in Africa</blockquote>
Zimbabwe cannot borrow from the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, African Development Bank and the Paris Club because of an $8 billion outstanding foreign debt.
