The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Beitbridge has arrested two suspected armed robbers believed to be part of a five-man gang linked to a number of robberies targeting long-distance and cross-border buses.
The two were arrested on a Harare-bound bus and on Tuesday, Beitbridge magistrate Langton Mukwengi granted police permission to further detain the two suspects, Jabson Shonhe and Augustin Sibanda.
A pistol and some rounds of live ammunition were allegedly recovered from the suspects, who are expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
The gang of five robbers allegedly robbed a Smart Express bus travelling from Mutare to Beitbridge on 17 December last year. They boarded the bus pretending to be ordinary passengers and later turned against the bus crew, where they fired indiscriminately inside the bus, killing one passenger Margaret Mungani and injuring two other passengers.
