Shurugwi Town Council has announced a 20-day intermittent water shutdown to allow for critical maintenance work at the Manzimdhaka Water Treatment Plant.

In a public notice issued on 20 August 2026, the council said the shutdown will run from 27 August to 15 September 2026, including weekends.

The exercise will affect Ward 2, Ward 5 in lower Town, and Wards 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13.

According to the council, the interruption is necessary to allow its engineering team to carry out infrastructure maintenance to improve long-term water service delivery and reliability across the town.

The council has advised residents to store enough water to cover essential household needs before the maintenance starts and to use available water sparingly during the shutdown period.

It said key community boreholes will remain operational, while water bowsers will be deployed to critical areas to ease the shortages.

“The Council sincerely regrets the inconvenience this necessary disruption may cause and thanks you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve our town’s potable water services,” reads part of the notice.
