The 2025/26 sesame marketing season has officially closed, with more than 2.3 million kilogrammes of the crop valued at about US$1.84 million passing through formal channels.
The Agricultural Marketing Authority, AMA, announced last week that the season closed on 14 August 2026.
In a notice to value-chain stakeholders, AMA said a total of 2,315,001 kilogrammes of sesame were formally recorded through registered buyers during the season.
The authority commended farmers, contractors and other value-chain players for their role in the continued development and formalisation of Zimbabwe’s sesame industry.
AMA said it had stepped up compliance monitoring during the season to promote orderly marketing and curb side-marketing.
As part of the enforcement operations, seven compliance tickets valued at US$7,000 were issued for violations.
In addition, 26,096.33 kilogrammes of sesame valued at about US$18,630.80 were confiscated and later auctioned.
The authority said preparations for the 2026/27 summer production season are now under way.
Registered and prospective sesame contractors have been urged to submit their summer cropping and contracting plans to AMA in line with the prescribed requirements and timelines.
AMA said it will continue to work with producers, contractors, government institutions and other stakeholders to improve productivity, strengthen compliance, expand formal marketing channels and position sesame as an increasingly important high-value, export-oriented crop.
