CCC Member of Parliament Susan Matsunga has thrown her weight behind the Zimbabwe Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) as debate on the proposed changes continued in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Contributing to the debate, Matsunga, who represents Budiriro North, told Speaker Jacob Mudenda that she supported extending the President’s term by two years to 2030 and having the President elected by Parliament.
“Ndiri kuti ngaiwedzerwe by two more years timbofadaya. (I’m saying it should be increased by two more years, then we’ll be happy),” said Matsunga.
“Under the Amendment No. 3 Bill of 2026, the President should be chosen by Members of Parliament.”
She added that all current Members of Parliament also wanted their own terms extended.
Seke MP Munyaradzi Kashambe (ZANU PF) later echoed her sentiments, telling the Speaker that members across all political parties were looking forward to the passage of the proposed law.
Matsunga, who recently received a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and US$50,000 from Wicknell Chivayo after praising the Presidential Borehole Scheme in Budiriro North, continued to commend the ZANU-PF-led Government for its infrastructure projects.
She praised developments such as the Trabablas Interchange in Harare, road rehabilitation works, and the Presidential Borehole Scheme nationwide, also pointing to her rural Gutu district.
“The Second Republic has done a lot for Zimbabwe. I used to fetch drinking water 40km from home in rural Gutu. Now, boreholes are all over the district. Development ngaipfuurire mberi,” she shouted.
Matsunga, however, said the Zimbabwe Gender Commission should be retained and that traditional chiefs should not be allowed to interfere in politics.
