The City of Harare has assured residents that major maintenance and repair works at Warren Control are nearly complete, with water expected to return to taps later today, 30 March 2026.
Council spokesperson Stanley Gama said a major pipe burst last week forced the immediate shutdown of Warren Control on Friday, 27 March. The facility supplies water to most parts of Harare.
Gama said the shutdown was necessary to scour the system, assess the pipelines, and carry out repairs.
The disruption has affected the CBD and many suburbs across the greater Harare area.
He added that since Friday, dozens of city workers have been working around the clock to restore water to residents. Said Gama:
“Today I spent hours at Warren Control where dozens of our staff have been working 24 hours a day since Friday to repair the damaged pipes.
“We experienced major pipe bursts which required meticulous works to restore water distribution to residents.
“Initially, we expected the works to completed by midnight yesterday but a few other technical issues came up.
“But I’m happy to inform residents that we have finally overcome the hurdles and the teams are putting final touches to the mammoth task they started on Friday.
“Our engineers and supporting staff have been working tirelessly to ensure normal supply is restored at the earliest possible time, while guaranteeing lasting repairs.
“The restoration of normal water supply is a delicate process, requiring laid down procedures to protect the safety of manpower and infrastructure.
“We would want to thank the engineers, supporting staff and the man in charge of Warren Control Senior Superintendent Chirenje for a splendid job.
“We also take this opportunity to thank the residents for their patience and understanding since last week.”
