Two men have been sentenced to 15 years in prison each by the Mutare Regional Magistrates’ Court for raping a five-year-old girl.
The convicts, a 49-year-old man, who is the victim’s biological father, and his 18-year-old neighbour, were sentenced this week following their conviction for the horrific abuse that occurred in January this year.
The court heard that between 25 and 29 January 2026, the father collected the young girl from her mother’s care and took her to his residence in the Nyakamete area of Mutare. While the child was in his custody, he locked her in a room and raped her.
The prosecution further established that during the same period, the second offender took advantage of the child’s vulnerability in the father’s absence.
The 18-year-old neighbour forcibly took the girl to his own room, where he covered her mouth to silence her cries before raping her.
The ordeal was discovered on 29 January when the child was returned to her mother. The mother immediately noticed that her daughter was struggling to walk and, upon questioning her, the child disclosed the abuse she had suffered at the hands of both men.
Following the revelation, members of the public apprehended the two men and handed them over to the police.
