A pastor from the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Mucheke, Masvingo, was arrested last Monday after a 13-year-old girl living in his household reported him for multiple counts of rape.

The accused, 53-year-old Chirashanye Magora, was granted US$50 bail by High Court judge Justice Sunsley Zisengwe.

As part of his bail conditions, Magora was ordered to report to Chikato Police Station every Monday and Thursday.

Representing the State, prosecutor Batanai Emmanuel Mathose alleged that Magora raped the girl on several occasions.

The State’s case is that on an unspecified date in December 2025, the complainant and the accused were at home when Magora ordered the girl into his room.

After she complied, he allegedly locked the door from the inside, stripped her, and raped her. He reportedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

On a subsequent occasion, the complainant reportedly woke up to find the accused on top of her, at which point he raped her again.

Although she screamed for help, he allegedly silenced her by covering her mouth and issued further threats to ensure her silence.

The situation came to a head on 16 February 2026, when the accused summoned the complainant to his room.

Sensing danger, the girl fled the house and sought refuge at Chikato Primary School. She narrated the ordeal to the headmaster, Stanley Zhonje, who escorted her to the police station at approximately 9 pm. Magora was arrested soon afterwards.

The matter has been remanded to 4 March 2026.
