ZANU PF in Manicaland has accepted Chipinge District’s decision to recommend Paul Tungwarara for co-option into the party’s Central Committee.
The position was reaffirmed at an extraordinary Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting held in Mutare on Sunday.
During the meeting, the province revisited the issue following concerns raised by Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha, who had argued that Tungwarara’s co-option did not follow the party’s laid-down guidelines and procedures.
Speaking at the meeting, ZANU-PF Manicaland Provincial Chairperson, Tawanda Mukodza, said:
“We made a recommendation on the central committee co-option, and we received a letter from National Commissioner Cde Munyaradzi Machacha on the nullification of the co-option of Cde Tungwarara.
“The circular says the replacement should come from Chipinge District. Manicaland should conduct another PCC meeting following the guidelines.
“We wrote to Chipinge district after receiving the letter. The district responded and has nominated Cde Tungwara.”
After Chipinge’s recommendation was presented, several party members rose to second the motion, throwing their weight behind Tungwarara’s proposed co-option into the Central Committee.
