ZANU PF Manicaland has confiscated a party vehicle assigned to Central Committee member Moses Gutu after recommending his suspension for alleged misconduct.
The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) adopted the recommendation during a meeting at Mutare Teachers’ College on Monday.
Gutu, who represents Nyanga, faces allegations of violating Article 27 of the party constitution, which penalises misconduct.
Provincial commissar Albert Nyakuedzwa confirmed the recommendation, saying it would be forwarded to the national commissariat before the end of the week for further action.
Gutu is accused of mobilising lower party structures against the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) and opposing Resolution Number One, which was adopted at the 22nd National People’s Conference in Mutare last year.
Several videos of him denouncing CAB3 have since gone viral on social media. The PEC has recommended his suspension pending a disciplinary hearing.
This is not the first time the former Nyanga Rural District Council chairman has faced party censure. He was disciplined between 2015 and 2016.
Following the PEC resolution, ZANU-PF provincial secretary for transport Stanely Mbawa was tasked with impounding the Ford Ranger assigned to Gutu by virtue of his Central Committee post.
Mbawa told The Manica Post that Gutu complied with the directive and delivered the vehicle to the provincial offices in Mutare in his presence.
“He delivered the car on Tuesday at the party offices in my presence. The car is in good condition, and was due for service,” said Mbawa.
“He even wrote an affidavit to certify that he left the vehicle in my possession on behalf of the party. I checked the accessory, and they were all in place.”
