Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Mthuli Ncube will today, Thursday 26 November, present the 2026 National Budget Statement at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.
In a post on X on Wednesday, the ministry said the presentation is in line with Section 305(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which requires the Finance Minister to table the National Budget before the Legislature. The Ministry said:
“In accordance with Section 305(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Hon. Professor Mthui Ncube, will present the 2026 National Budget Statement to Parliament in Mt Hampden tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.”
Ahead of the budget presentation, former opposition Member of Parliament, Fadzayi Mahere, said Zimbabweans should expect hiked taxes, hiked levies and misery. She wrote on X:
“What I can guarantee you is that it’s going to be another anti-people, anti-business, anti-progress smorgasbord of hiked taxes, hiked levies and misery.
“The only people who benefit under this poorly run, anaemic economy are political elites, the known tender boys and those who are looting and feasting on the extortionate taxes paid by the common person.
“1 in 2 Zimbabweans live in extreme poverty. This is where they want us – so that we can ululate when they give us handouts, crumbs and leftovers from their raiding of the fiscus.
“We don’t want handouts. We want an economy that works so that we have money in our own pockets to spend on what we want, not excess vehicles from the CMED warehouse or their friends’ car sale-laundering businesses.”
