Socialite and musician Millicent Chimonyo, better known by her stage name Malloti, has appeared in court facing allegations of using offensive language against controversial preacher Passion Java on social media.
Chimonyo was charged with cyberbullying when she appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzayi on Wednesday. She was not asked to plead and was granted bail of US$100.
Under her bail conditions, she must report to the police fortnightly, reside at her stated address, and not interfere with witnesses.
Prosecutors allege that on 14 May this year, Chimonyo recorded a video in which she directed explicit insults at Java and shared it on her Facebook page.
She is also accused of claiming that the cleric had damaged the reputation of Zim Dancehall music.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says her conduct breached the country’s cybercrime laws. Nomsa Kangara represented the State.
