A Harare man appeared before Magistrate Donald Ndirowei on Monday, facing accusations of raping a Midlands State University (MSU) student.
Simbarashe Munenge, 26, from Belvedere, was remanded in custody and was expected to make a bail application today.
Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi alleges that on July 12 this year, the victim went to bed with her door closed but unlocked.
Around midnight, the court heard, she woke to find Munenge in her bed, with his trousers lowered to knee level.
The complainant reportedly confronted Munenge, demanding to know why he had entered her room uninvited.
It is alleged that she kicked him, but he then violently grabbed her and removed her underwear. Munenge is accused of then raping the woman without protection.
Following the alleged violation, the victim left the accused in the room and went to the balcony to call her aunt and inform her of the rape.
The incident was subsequently reported to the police, leading to Munenge’s arrest.
