Music teacher and artiste Tavonga Assiel Chipadza has invented two musical instruments which he named Chipamhanzi and Chigufendani.
Chipadza is a holder of a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Zimbabwe and a Ph.D. and heads the Music Consultancy Society (MCS).
He told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/life-amp-style/article/200014511/teacher-invents-music-instruments">NewsDay</a> that the two musical instruments are a response to the need for pitched music instruments that embrace the feel and authenticity of African ingeniousness. He said:

Chigufendani is a combination of two traditional musical instruments from Zimbabwe namely Chigufe (a gourd whistle) and Chipendani (a musical bow).
Chipamhanzi is a three-in-one musical instrument namely Chigufe, hosho (shakers) and Ngororombe.
The three-in-one music instrument has a blending scale pattern stretching up to an octave while the hosho provides the percussive pulse otherwise known as minanzi in Shona.
The chigufe and reeds (nyere) combine to make a harmonically blending octave scale.
Chigufe is played up to the fifth degree of the scale and the last three notes are played on the nyere.
The two instruments Chipamhanzi and Chigufendani are also meant to curb the acute shortage of African music instruments exposed by the Continuous Activity Learning Assessment (CALA) in schools.
The two instruments will be launched soon with polished performances from a sample class at a colourful ceremony.

Chipadza said he had capped over 300 teachers and musicians at MCS, which is registered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
The teachers and musicians received certificates in visual arts and performance studies and music.
He said he will cap gospel music legend, Mechanic Manyeruke with an honorary certificate in music that symbolises his exemplary character and dedicated work which has helped in the growth of the music industry in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwean Music Teacher Invents Two Musical Instruments

The newly appointed leader of ZAOGA FIF Joe Guti has mocked veteran gospel musician Mechanic Manyeruke saying there is dissonance in his family setup.
Manyeruke has been a gospel musician for decades while his son Guspy Warrior, whose real name is Emmanuel, is a Zimdancehall chanter.
In a sermon to congregants, Guti said they should be true disciples and ambassadors of the gospel and the church (ZAOGA) and not be like the Manyeruke family. He said:

We don’t want a setup, which is similar to the Manyeruke family where the father ministers the gospel, while his son is singing secular music such as “Seunononga”.
This is not right. Hold on to the vision and be a true disciple. Continue in the teachings of Forward in Faith.
We are appealing that when you are at a Forward in Faith pulpit, don’t use other materials which are not for forwarding faith.

Some social media users criticised Guti for his remarks, saying he was being arrogant and disrespectful.
Guti was recently announced as the new leader of ZAOGA FIF following the death of founder Ezekiel Guti early this month.
Joe is reported to be the late Ezekiel Guti’s nephew who was raised by his mother’s family and took up their family surname.

New ZAOGA Leader Joe Guti Mocks Manyeruke Family

Fortune Chasi, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Mazowe South and former Energy and Power Development Minister, has defended the Zimbabwean dancehall artist, Winky D, who has been having a run-in with the authorities over his political and socially conscious music.
It is alleged that the ZANU PF government banned Winky D’s music on state-owned radio stations and the public broadcaster, ZBC. 
Chasi, who is known to be an admirer of Winky D’s music, said that those who don’t like the political connotations in Winky D’s music should simply not listen to it. Posting on Twitter, Chasi, a member of the ruling ZANU PF also added that musicians and writers should not be censored and that they should be allowed to create without interference. He further stated:

I took the time to listen to his music, I like his music but I have never met him (Winky D).
I also love poetry and literature, so when people start making these criticisms, I take the time to listen and ask myself if there is a problem.
A musician is a product of their material condition, they sing about what they interact with, where they come from in the ghetto — their troubles and tribulations.
To be honest, I was surprised at what the whole hullabaloo is about.
I don’t think musicians and writers should be interfered with in their freedoms to create. ljipita (Winky D’s song) once stirred controversy but for me Egypt (ljipita) represents a desirable state of affairs, a promised land.
I think sometimes we blow things out of the correct way that they should be moving and I am glad the deputy minister (Tino Machakaire) spoke about it.
I love Winky D’s music and I don’t think he has done anything wrong and let us not hinder people from creativity, I have sung songs myself and I wouldn’t want someone to come and tell me how I should sing.
Let people write and sing what they want, it’s their constitutional right, musical taste is not universal, let people sample what they want and if you don’t like someone’s music don’t listen to them.

In January, the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation, Tinoda Machakaire, criticised Winky D following the release of his album, Eureka Eureka in December, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/01/14/winky-ds-eureka-deputy-minister-makes-u-turn-says-let-us-not-fight-artists/">but later made a U-turn, urging Zimbabweans not to fight artists.</a> The album was viewed by some individuals and groups as politically-charged.
Machakaire, who is ZANU PF’s secretary for youth affairs, called for a tone down of criticism against Winky D and urged Zimbabweans to respect artistes’ constitutional rights and opinions. Machakaire also highlighted the importance of finding solutions to the problems facing the country, rather than fighting each other. 
One of the controversial songs on Winky D’s Eureka Eureka album is “Ibotso,” which portrays Zimbabwe as a society in decay, where corruption and poverty have devastated young people in ghetto communities. The song criticises those who choose to ignore these harsh realities, while Winky D exposes the ugly underbelly of a society that hides behind a facade of self-denial. The lyrics suggest that Zimbabweans are living in a prolonged nightmare, and that delusion and deceit are prevalent. Through “Ibotso,” Winky D highlights the plight of Zimbabwean youths and calls for action to address the country’s social and economic challenges.

Former Energy Minister Chasi Defends Winky D's Music Against Authorities' Opposition

Zimdancehall chanter <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Platinum_Prince/">Platinum Prince</a> born <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Platinum_Prince/">Ian Makiwa</a> was recently assaulted by members of the public in South Africa after being caught trying to hijack a diesel tanker.
According to reports, Platinum Prince and an accomplice attempted to hijack a diesel tanker but were caught and beaten by members of the public who caught him.
Platinum Prince was born and raised in Bindura, Zimbabwe. He rose to fame with his hit song “Hazviite” on the Bodyslam Riddim. Most of his early songs were produced by Bodyslam Records.
In 2014, he was nominated for the Best Improved Artist Award at the Zimdancehall Awards. However, his music has caused him trouble over the years. In 2015, he released a satirical song called “Baba vaBona” that was directed at President Robert Mugabe.
In October 2019, he was severely assaulted after being abducted in Harare, allegedly for his songs that questioned the country’s president.
Some commentators have attributed scandals involving Zimbabwean artistes to the decades of economic deterioration in the country. They suggest that artistes are turning to crime because their performances are not being paid for, due to a lack of buying power among the public. Most recently, another musician Paradzai Mesi made the news when he was accused of breaking into a local tuckshop to steal groceries. Mesi denied the charges, and eventually, the tuckshop owner dropped the charges.
These incidents highlight the challenges faced by artists who are struggling to make a living in a difficult economic environment. The Zimbabwean economy has been performing poorly due to various factors, including corruption by political elites who misuse state resources.

South Africa: Zimdancehall Artiste Platinum Prince Caught Hijacking Diesel Tanker

Zimbabwean music producer DJ Levels, whose real name is Rodger Tafadzwa Kadzimwe, was involved in a road accident earlier today along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway while driving to Norton.
The award-winning music producer sustained only minor injuries, and he is currently in good health. Although Levels did not provide many details about the accident, he confirmed that it was not tragic. He told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/life-amp-style/article/200013541/dj-levels-survives-freak-accident">NewsDay</a>:

It is true that I was involved in an accident earlier today but it was not tragic… It is a hard situation, that car (an Audi sedan) was costly.
</blockquote>
Levels is a self-proclaimed petrolhead and drag racer. The images of the wrecked vehicle posted on social media showed massive damage to his supercar, which may be written off.

DJ Levels Involved In Road Accident On Harare-Bulawayo Highway

Gospel musician <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Michael_Mahendere/">Michael Mahendere</a> received over $185 000 and a generous assortment of gifts on Saturday as he celebrated his 40th birthday, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/life-amp-style/article/200013518/mahendere-gets-us185k-2-blocks-of-mines-10-cows-as-birthday-presents">NewsDay</a> reported. Among his presents were $185,000, two blocks of mines, and ten cows. The event was held at Golden Conife in Strathaven, Harare and featured an auction of two portraits, which sold for $400, and a platinum sponsorship of $15,000 from Grey Homes.
Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation deputy minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tino_Machakaire/">Tinoda Machakaire</a> also gifted Mahendere $20,000 and 10 cows. In addition, eight musicians contributed a total of $150,000 towards Mahendere’s birthday. Businesswoman <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zodwa_Mkandla/">Zodwa Mkandla</a> presented the artist with two return tickets to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Victoria_Falls/">Victoria Falls,</a> and an anonymous guest gifted him two blocks of mines. 
Mahendere announced that the proceeds from the birthday dinner would be used to establish a state-of-the-art recording studio focused on mentoring and nurturing young gospel talent. He said:

The proceeds that we had at this event will be going towards our three major projects. The first one is we want to built a state-of-the-art studio. Forty years for me means I need to start impacting other people’s lives.
We are going to do talent search and raise more young ministers. You are going to see more young ministers coming up, whom we will record and push. There could be someone who can sing and they are very far away and lack an opportunity and just as I received an opportunity years back, I also want to create that platform for others.
We will help them write songs, push them and contribute to the society as well as the music industry.
There is a serious growth in Zimdancehall, where artistes are raising each other. There is a serious growth that is happening in any other genre and we are lacking that in the gospel genre.
So we are going to be focusing more on gospel music from different churches. It does not matter which church one is from.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services deputy minister Kindness Paradza also revealed that the ministry was processing Mahendere’s application for a radio and television broadcasting license. He said:

Minister Mahendere will undoubtedly live to see his dream of setting up a dedicated radio station for gospel music come to fruition. This can hasten the distribution, promotion and accessibility of gospel music.
As a young man, Mahendere has achieved a lot. His music is not only national and regional, but has gone international. We are proud that he is also lifting the Zimbabwean flag wherever he is.

A number of musicians and celebrities attended Michael Mahendere’s 40th birthday celebration, including Mukudzei “Jah Prayzah” Mukombe, Janet Manyowa, Peace “Baba Shupi” Ndlovu, Madam Boss, and United Family International Church pastor Hubert Chigumira.
Gospel artiste Tembalami, whose real name is Temba Tagwireyi, praised Mahendere for his continued excellence in the music industry, saying that Mahendere had set a standard for young gospel musicians to follow.

Family Shows Have A Special Place In My Heart - Macheso

Paradzai Mesi, a sungura musician known for hits such as Tiri Huruva, has announced that he is quitting drinking beer. This follows calls from his fans to give up alcohol if he was serious about his music career.
Mesi has faced numerous challenges, including poverty and accusations of theft. However, he has received support from fellow musicians and fans, who have donated money and goods to help him.
Despite previously jokingly saying that he could not quit beer as it would affect families in the beer industry, Mesi has now pledged to stop drinking. He made the announcement in a recent post, saying that he realized that his drinking was causing him problems and that he wanted to focus on his music career. He said:

Musician Paradzai Mesi Quits Drinking Beer

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Caesar_Zvayi/">Caesar Zvayi</a>, a former Editor of The Herald, has said it would have been more meaningful if Zimbabwe’s renowned international musician, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Thomas_Mapfumo/">Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo</a> had held his last show in Mbare, Harare, where he began his career. Mapfumo who now resides in the United States, held one of his final performances in Leicester in the United Kingdom on June 24, 2023. In tweets that were seen by Pindula News, Zvayi said Mapfumo’s music would have a stronger impact on Zimbabweans living in the country. He said:

I understand Thomas Mapfumo’s swansong was on June 24 in the UK before a largely Caucasian audience. There are two things wrong with his decision to retire in Albion. Firstly, he cut his music teeth in Mbare, wouldn’t Stodart Hall or Rufaro have been better statements?
Secondly his genre Chimurenga does it connect more with Mr Brown or VaChigwenhere? I grew up on his music, as did many others here in Zim. I do not buy stories of his alleged persecution here that saw him fail to bury even his ride or die, Lancelot. Horomba yarasika iyi!

According to attendees at the Leicester show in the UK, Dr Thomas Mapfumo appeared frail and elderly. He required assistance to reach the stage and a chair was provided for him to sit. One of the attendees said this was not the energetic Mapfumo who typically performs on stage. The show was attended by over 300 people, and Mapfumo reportedly pocketed approximately 12,000 pounds from gate takings.
Mapfumo revealed in May this year that he will be retiring from stage performances after holding his farewell show on June 24th in the UK. His over 50-year-long career has been marked by his no-holds-barred criticism of the colonial Rhodesia government and later, ZANU PF.
In a video circulating online, Mapfumo stated that he personally organised the show in England using his own finances to thank his fans for their support. He also clarified that he will not be performing at another show that features Winky D and Jah Prayzah, stating that he failed to agree with the organisers and the two artists.
Mapfumo, who has been an ardent critic of the ZANU PF government, was forced out of the country by former President Robert Mugabe and has continued to criticise the incumbent, Emmerson Mnangagwa, for his poor human rights record and maladministration. Mapfumo last performed in Zimbabwe in April 2018 at a show called the ‘Homecoming Bira.’

Nigerian musician Burna Boy emerged as one of the winners at the recently concluded BET Awards festival while the movie “<a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Black Panther</a>: Wakanda Forever”, which features <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwean actress</a> <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Danai Gurira</a>, was awarded the Best Movie title.
The 50th anniversary of hip-hop was celebrated at the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">BET Awards</a> in LA on June 26, 2023, with tributes to legends and new talent. Migos’ Quavo and Offset performed “Bad and Boujee” in honour of Takeoff, who had passed away. Performers paid tribute to Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Biz Markie</a>, and <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Pop Smoke</a> throughout the night.
Few awards were given during the show, with BET and <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Kid Capri</a> keeping the focus on the music. <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Busta Rhymes</a> received the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Lifetime Achievement Award</a>, handed to him by Swizz Beatz. Busta Rhymes is known for his pioneering role in hip-hop and seven Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits.

BET Awards: Burna Boy, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Receive Accolades

Celebrated Zimbabwean musician <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Leonard_Zhakata">Karikoga Leonard Zhakata</a> is celebrating his 55th birthday today, 25 June 2023.
In a post on his social media pages, Zhakata expressed his gratitude to his fans, friends, and family for their love and support throughout his long musical career.
Zhakata is famous for hits that include Mugove, Hupenyu Mutoro, Gomba Remarara, Sakunatsa, Batai Mazwi, Pane Ziya Pane Dovi, and Dairai Tenzi, to name but a few. He wrote:

Special day for me as I turn 55 years. I thank my lord, family, friends and fans. You have been so generous with your love over the years and you have supported my music through thick and thin. Today let me know, what’s your favorite song?

Zhakata was born on 25 June 1968 and is the only boy in a family of seven children.
He is married to Ruth and the couple has four children – Chamu Lionel, Angela Leossa, Petula Pepukai and Kanotonga Lennon.
Zhakata became the youngest and the first Zimbabwean solo musician to sell more than 100 000 copies of an album, Maruva Enyika.
He recently revealed that he struggled to release his Maruva Enyika album and had to push for two years, from 1992 to 1994 for the album to be released.
The album has the track, “Mugove”, which is considered by some local commentators one of the best songs ever released by a Zimbabwean musician.

Leonard Zhakata Celebrates 55th Birthday

ZANU PF on Saturday snubbed the party’s praise singer Chief Shumba Hwenje for <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Mambo_Dhuterere">Mambo Dhuterere</a> as it launched its campaign for the 23 August elections.
Hwenje is known for the song “ED Pfee”, which became an anthem at ZANU PF rallies ahead of the 2018 elections.
He recently released an album cover art and tracklist for an album set to be released ahead of the elections.
The album titled “Special Branch” carries 10 tracks- ED Chete, More Fire, Huchi, Saka Uchaita Sei, State House, Shumba Ngavapinde, Ndomuvhotera Chete, Chakabatwa Kuti Dzvii, Mai Wellie, and Mpela Mpela.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/standard-style/article/200013157/zanu-pf-snubs-ed-pfee-singer-for-mambo-dhuterere">The Standard</a> reported a source within ZANU PF as saying Hwenje was informed that Mambo Dhuterere was going to be the official campaign praise singer and is set to release an album ahead of the elections. Said the source:

Hwenje was ready to entertain party supporters and also praise Mnangagwa.
He is a tried and tested musician and it came as a surprise that Mambo Dhuterere was going to take Hwenje’s place after all the preparations.

Mambo Dhuterere is set to release songs that praise Mnangagwa that will be used during ZANU PF’s campaign.
The musician has two yet-to-be-released songs that praise Mnangagwa.
One of them is titled “ZANU PF Kuwinner Mugariro” and another one features musician-cum politician Sandra Ndebele.
Ndebele is running for a municipal seat in Ward 20, Pelandaba-Tshabalala in Bulawayo under a ZANU PF ticket.
Pride Mkono, a political analyst and activist castigated musicians who get involved in politics for money. Said Mkono:

Most of these so-called musicians are opportunists and political activists of the ruling party hiding behind art.
It is an indictment that they have been trying to reinvent themselves through politics when most of their careers are all but done.
To them, joining politics is being part of the gravy train.
They want to eat with the elites who are oppressing and stealing from the masses.

Mambo Dhuterere launched his album “Nadah Pachiputukezi” in January 2023 at a ceremony that was held at the Harare International Conference Centre and graced by politicians, mainly from ZANU PF.
At the launch, the album was auctioned for US$30 000.

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Mai_Titi">Mai TT</a> says God put her in prison for a reason and she has come to terms with the fact that jail will be her home for the next several months.
Speaking exclusively to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/in-god-she-trusts-mai-tt-speaks-exclusively-from-prison/">H-Metro</a> on Monday on the sidelines of a party hosted for the children of inmates at Chikurubi Female Prison, Mai TT, whose real name is Felistas Murata, said:

I am yet to accept that I have to stay behind these walls and get used to such an uncomfortable environment.
What came into my mind on my second day in my cell was my idea of visiting this same prison years ago.
I pleaded with prison officials to allow me to spend one night with inmates, but they denied me that chance, arguing that their protocol does not consider such requests.
I was touched by the living conditions of inmates, especially innocent babies, accompanying their mothers in prison.
I wanted to know more and little did I know that one day I would be counted among inmates kwete zvekunyepera kana kukumbira.
I want to believe that God is the one who gave me the idea to visit the prison and donate sanitary wear and food that year.
Ndakazarurirwa kuti ndiMwari akazoona zvakanaka kuti ndiuye nenzira inouya nevazhinji vavo.
A new chapter of my life has started and I need more grace to endure until I complete my sentence.
Ndiwo unonzi mutsanyo uyu, ndakamboramba kudya asi ndinonzwa kushumirwa neumwe mutowo, it’s painful.
It is my prayer that all those mocking me continue to do so, maybe, I will find favour in God’s eyes and He will get me out of this place.
God is in control and His grace will take me through the race.

The party was hosted by Collen Abrahams, who is the son-in-law of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service Commissioner General, Moses Chihobvu.
Mai TT was last week sentenced to an effective nine (9) months imprisonment following her conviction for theft of trust property.
She was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, 6 months were suspended on condition that she doesn’t commit a similar offense in the next 5 years. It means she will serve an effective 6 months for the offence.
During the trial at the Harare Magistrates Court, it emerged that Mai TT defaulted on a court order, to perform community service once, following a conviction for assault eight years ago.
For defaulting on 105 hours of community service, Mai TT was ordered to serve 3 months in prison.
In total, Mai TT will serve 9 months in prison.

Renowned music producer and arts critic, <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Clive_Mukundu">Clive “Mono” Mukundu</a> says the <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Urban_Grooves">urban grooves</a> music genre is dead and buried.
Mukundu made the remarks as a number of pioneers of the genre are trying to revive the movement.
On Saturday, 17 June, a number of urban grooves artists held a get-together show in Avondale, Harare, and attracted a sizeable crowd.
Mukundu said Urban Grooves was a foreign genre that failed to acclimatize and could not be exported as a result. He said:

Urban grooves was too foreign to make it in Zimbabwe because it impossible to take a foreign genre and localise it
The urban grooves artists failed to localise their genre and, as a result, it could not be exported.
You can’t make money with music that cannot be exported since we don’t have money here in Zimbabwe to buy it.
Those who used to blame Delani Makhalima for stealing their money are crazy because there was no money to steal.
Even if Delani wanted to steal the money, there was no money to be stolen.
The same applies to people who accused Tinashe Mutarisi of stealing their money at some point during the COVID-19 period.

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Mai_Titi">Mai TT</a>, born Felistas Murata, was last week sentenced to an effective nine (9) months imprisonment following her conviction.
Soon after her sentencing, some people took to social media platforms to mock the comedienne who has more than 1.4 million followers on Facebook.
However, Seh Calaz believes it is wrong to celebrate Mai TT’s imprisonment, saying every person has his or her skeletons in the closet. The Zimdancehall chanter <a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=283610740934059">wrote on Facebook</a>:

"No Human Being Is Perfect", Seh Calaz Defends Jailed Mai TT

Zimbabwe’s sixth television station – NRTV – is set to go on air this Tuesday at 10 AM.
NRTV will officially be launched on DSTV Channel 288 to become the country’s sixth television station.
Four television stations have gone on air since 2020 when the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) awarded six national commercial television broadcasting licences.
The stations are Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN Prime), 3K TV, KeYona TV and Jive TV.
NRTV acting general manager Moses Matanda told <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/media-reforms-surpass-target-as-nrtv-set-to-be-launched">The Sunday Mail</a> that the TV station has been able to create employment for a lot of people. He said:

We are grateful for Government’s efforts to open up the airwaves.
NRTV has been able to create employment not only for those who are directly working for the station but also for independent producers that are also creating employment for creatives across the country.
Most importantly, these television stations are commercial, which promotes fairness and objectivity in the broadcasting of news and information.

Matanda said NRTV offices are in Newlands, Harare, where a state-of-the-art studio is still under construction.
He expressed gratitude to integrated media company, Zimpapers, which owns ZTN, for helping nurture NRTV in its infancy.
Matanda added that NRTV’s programming schedule will comprise 95 percent local content to promote independent local producers.
NRTV stands for Nkululeko Rusununguko Television. The TV station is owned by Rusununguko Media (Pvt) Ltd which is reportedly owned by the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).

Summer Time In Zimbabwe: A Poem By David P Carroll

Social media personality <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mai_Titi">Mai TT,</a> whose real name is Felistas Murata (37), was on Tuesday convicted of theft of trust property by Harare Magistrate Munashe Chibanda.
Mai TT was remanded in custody pending sentencing this Wednesday.
In her judgment, the presiding magistrate described the case as a “classic case of theft of trust property”, reported <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/06/13/mai-tt-remanded-in-custody/">ZBC News</a>.
Allegations were that in September 2022, Mai TT approached Rachel Mhuka saying she was in need of US$10 000 so that she could start a business.
She allegedly volunteered to give Mhuka a Mercedes Benz (AFF9759), which she claimed belonged to her, as surety.
Mai TT told Mhuka that she would forfeit the Mercedes Benz in the event that she failed to repay the US$10 000 on or before 30 November 2022.
The State alleges that acting on the misrepresentation, Mhuka gave Murata US$10 000.
After some days, Mai Titi allegedly returned to Mhuka and demanded back the car saying it did not belong to her.
She allegedly offered Mhuka an Audi Q5 (AFG3701) and an expired passport as surety.
Sometime in January this year, Mhuka was then approached by police from ZRP Rhodesville, who then seized the Audi Q5 saying it belonged to Else Event Car Hire.
Mhuka then lodged a complaint with the police leading to Mai TT’s arrest.
It is further alleged that Mai Titi approached Liberty Kudakwashe Vazhura at Else Car Rental intending to hire an Audi Q5.
Vazhura and Mai Titi then entered into an agreement where she was supposed to pay US$770 per week and a lease agreement was signed.
She failed to make the weekly payments, which prompted Vazhura to order her to return the car.
Vazhura then reported the matter to Rhodesville Police Station.
The car was recovered from Mhuka’s place of residence where Mai Titi had surrendered it as collateral.

Mai TT Convicted Of Theft Of Trust Property

Sungura musician <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Alick_Macheso">Alick Macheso</a> has paid rent for <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Peter_Moyo">Peter Moyo</a>, son of late musician <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tongai_Moyo">Tongai Moyo</a>, popularly known as Dhewa.
Peter asked for rent money from Macheso during a family musical show at Steak House in Waterfalls last week.
The Utakataka Express band leader later said he received the money to pay his rent and more than US$500 from well-wishers after his public appeal. Said Peter:

Whenever I attend Macheso’s family shows during month ends, I will be begging for money to pay rent.
At least if you help me with US$150, I will look for another US$150 to pay my rent.
</blockquote>
Macheso commended Peter for opening up on his problem and pledged to assist him. He said:

Chekuvanza hapana mikore yatiri iyi, we must be sharing our problems and situations in life as is the case with Peter Moyo.
Peter, you are my son, be open, I am there for you, Tongai is not dead because we are there.
God is there watching, so just do your best and God will be there for you.

Macheso and Peter performed the song Samanyemba and Zvinoita Murudo together after his appeal.
Peter took over Utakataka Express following the death of his father on 15 October 2011.
He retained the core of the band members like Spencer Khumulani, Evidence “Baba Gari” Tarabuku and Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika.

Zimbabwean Comedian Wechijandukwa Obtains Degree In Social Work

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/DJ_Shugeta/">Tafadzwa Shugeta Ben</a> wrote a note to inform his friends, fans, and family that he is leaving Power FM. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Shugeta expressed his gratitude to his colleagues, bosses, and fans for their support during his time at the station.
He also mentioned his sadness about leaving his co-host Butterphly, who he considered his accomplice and right-hand comrade. Shugeta praised her as one of the best presenters of their time and expressed his desire to work with her again in the future.
He thanked Power FM for the lessons and mentorship that helped him grow as a brand and a person, and for the friends, he made there. He expressed his faith in God and promised to keep in touch with his fans. We present his note below:

This note serves to inform you that I am leaving Power FM. It is with hearffelt gratitude and a full heart that I say Farewell. I would like to thank my Power FM fans immensely as well as the other presenters, my fellow colleagues and bosses who welcomed me with open arms and we worked together during my tenure at the station.
It is with great sadness that i get to part with my accomplice, my right hand Comrade in arms, sahwira wangu mukuru Butterphly . She in my opinion is one of the best presenters our time. She was my senior and she selflessly showed me the ropes and she taught me a lot. We created magic in the studio and we made great memories. I am going to miss you Butterphly. If ever an opportunity arises for us to work together again, even outside radio I would love that and will not hesitate to take it up.
This is goodbye to PowerFm one of the most loved radio stations in Zimbabwe, I am so grateful for the lessons and the mentorship. I have grown as a brand , as a person and I have made so many friends and most of them who are now family through Power FM. Shugeta leaves the station a few weeks after Pathisani Sibanda and Tinashe Chikuse, known as the “champions league” duo, departed for Capitalk FM.
Shugeta started working at Power FM in 2022, having previously worked at the station’s sister station National FM where he hosted the show called Sowe raMadzibaba Shugeta (MshikaShika).
In 2022, he and Butterphly became the new hosts of Power FM’s Drive Time show called the Drive Thru, which aired from Monday to Friday between 3 pm and 6 pm. They took over from Hazvinei ‘Dj Chilli’ Sakarombe, who moved to the 9 pm to midnight slot.

Shugeta Letter To Friends, Fans And Family As He Leaves Power FM

Learnmore “Long John” Jonasi, a US-based Zimbabwean stand-up comedian, won the Boston Comedy Festival at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston.
The festival is a prestigious event for up-and-coming comedians, consisting of an elimination-style tournament running throughout the week. Jonasi, whose real name is Learnmore Mwanyenyeka, is also an actor. The comedian shared his victory with fans on social media. He said:

Man!! I just won the legendary Boston Comedy Festival, “This is a big deal,” it was so much fun competing with comedians from all over America and your boy represented. #TheVillageBoy.
</blockquote>
After being announced as the Boston Comedy Festival winner, Learnmore Jonasi, who recently moved to the US, expressed in his acceptance speech that the win was a dream come true. He said to applause from the audience:

I just want to say thank you so much Boston Comedy Festival. This is amazing. This was a dream all the way from my village. Twelve years ago I used to dream to do this now I‘m travelling the world and making people laugh.

Jonasi, previously known as Long John, was raised by his grandparents in Chimanimani. He became a local and South African star before rising to fame in the US.
In 2017, he won the National Arts Merit Awards for Outstanding Comedian of the Year, the Savanna Comic Choice Awards for Pan African Comic of the Year, and the People’s Choice Award in Steve Harvey’s Stand Up Spotlight competition.
In 2020, he won the National Arts Merit Awards for Outstanding Comedian of the Year. He has been touring the US recently, and his win at the Boston Comedy Festival is expected to advance his career.

US-based Zimbabwean Comedian Long John Jonasi Wins Boston Comedy Festival

Kelly Rusike, the Zimbabwean Jazz bassist and Legendary <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jazz_Invitation/">Jazz Invitation</a> frontman of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Rusike_Brothers/">Rusike Brothers</a>, has passed away.
Rusike was a veteran producer, writer, arranger, and sound engineer who owned Shed Productions, a major recording production house in Zimbabwe.
The Rusike Brothers, with whom Kelly sang and produced music, have confirmed his death in a statement. They said:

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our young brother Kelly Rusike who passed away on the 17th of May 2023 after a long battle with diabetes. Kelly lived for his music and touched many lives through it. His music will forever live in our hearts as he travels to a higher place where “the journey continues”.

Kelly Rusike was a legendary Zimbabwean jazz bassist who was part of the Rusike Brothers, a family band formed in 1978 in Lusaka, Zambia.
The Rusikes moved from Zimbabwe to Zambia in 1965 during the liberation struggle. Their father, Abiathar Rusike, was a teacher, journalist, and musician who coached his five sons to become music superstars.
The siblings were Tawanda, Abbie, Kelly, Philip, and Colin. Influenced by the Jackson Five and other Black American pop acts of the 1970s, they returned to Zimbabwe in 1980 after independence and became popular with many audio commercials, jingles, and hit songs, including the timeless Cecilia, Bp Yangu Yakwira, and Ngwerewere sadza advert.

Zimbabwean Jazz Bassist, Producer Kelly Rusike Of Rusike Brothers Has Died

Zimbabwean rapper <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Holy_Ten/">Mukudzei ‘Holy Ten’ Chitsama</a> has been confirmed as the father of the child he shares with model Chelsea Tariro Hlomayi through a DNA test, revealing a 99.9% probability of paternity.
However, Holy Ten has refused to pay Hlomayi’s demand of US$350 for child support, offering US$150 instead citing his inconsistent income and family responsibilities.
Hlomayi has threatened legal action to compel him to contribute more.
Holy Ten is currently on an international tour.
The news that Holy Ten has a son with Hlomayi came out in March when the rapper and Kimberly Richards officially announced their <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/03/20/holy-ten-marries-kimberly-richards/">marriage</a>. 
Unverified reports claim that Holy Ten paid US$15,000 as the bride price for his fiancée in Bulawayo. There have also been rumours that Kimberly is expecting their first child.

Holy Ten Confirmed As Father Of Chelsea's Child

<a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Jah_Prayzah">Jah Prayzah</a>, real name Mukudzeyi Mukombe, on Friday night, launched his 12th album, “‘Chiremerera” at the Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare.
The musician’s mother officially launched the album and was joined on stage by Jah Prayzah’s wife and uncle, who played a significant role in shaping his music career.
When he took to the stage, Jah Prayzah performed some of his most popular songs, including the title track, “Chiremerera”.
Feli Nandi and Baba Harare also graced the stage to keep the crowd dancing and cheering throughout the night.
After launching “Chiremerera” which mean “Respectability” on Friday, the tall and lanky musician will this Saturday launch his 13th album, “Maita Baba”  which mean “Thank You Father” at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The launch of the two albums was preceeded by the release of a single titled Sarungano featuring <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Feli_Nandi">Feli Nandi</a> (Felistas Chipendo) and accompanied by a video.
Jah Prayzah’s double album launch is a feat only achieved by the late Leonard Dembo, not only once, but twice, locally.
In 1987 Dembo released Sharai and Kuziya Mbuya Huudzwa albums and then in 1994 he gave the world two master pieces of albums – Paw Paw and Nzungu Ndamenya.

Jah Prayzah Launches "Chiremerera", His First Of Two Albums

Zimbabwean artiste Winky D has won the Best African Dancehall Entertainer award at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) held at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.
IRAWMA, which was running under the theme “Reggae Rise”, recognised dancehall music and its contribution to the evolution of Jamaican music over the last fifty years.
The 40th IRAWMA edition held in the North American country received 135 nominees vying for honours in 32 categories.
Winky D, born Wallace Chirumiko, was crowned the Best African Dancehall artiste despite competing against the likes of Patoranking, Star Zee, and Shatta Wale. <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/winky-d-scoops-best-african-dancehall-entertainer-award/">He said:</a>

This award was particularly poignant as it had been presented to us during a period of intense challenges and diversity.

In January this year, Winky D won the Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa prize at the prestigious All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) held in Senegal.
He scooped the prize for his hit track “Happy Again”.
In recent times, the Mabvuku-bred musician has suffered forms of persecution in Zimbabwe for his songs viewed as unfriendly to the ruling elite.
He recently told his fans that he has been banned from performing his new song “Ibotso” in which he seemingly condemns the greedy ruling elite feasting at the expense of the poor majority.

Winky D Wins Best African Dancehall Entertainer Award

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mai_Titi/">Mai Titi</a> real name <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mai_Titi/">Felistas Murata Edwards</a>, will present her defence in response to allegations that she fraudulently borrowed US$10 000 using hired and stolen vehicles and an invalid passport as collateral.
The prosecution established a case against her, and the court dismissed her application for discharge.
Mai Titi, a Zimbabwean comedian, musician, entrepreneur and MC, allegedly promised to repay the loan by November 2020 after offering a Mercedes Benz vehicle as surety, despite knowing that the car was hired.
After some days, Mai Titi allegedly returned to the lender, Rachel Mhuka and demanded back the car saying it did not belong to her. She rather offered her an Audi Q5 (AFG3701) and an expired passport as surety.
Sometime in January this year, Mhuka was then approached by police from ZRP Rhodesville, who then seized the Audi Q5 saying it belonged to Else Event Car Hire.
Irked by Murata’s actions, Mhuka then lodged a complaint with the police leading to Mai Titi’s arrest.
The defence hearing is set for May 24th.
Mai Titi also faces a separate charge of failing to make payments for an Audi she hired from Else Car Rental. Mai Titi entered into an agreement with Else Car Rental to hire the Audi Q5, but she failed to make weekly payments. The car was recovered from the lender’s residence, where Mai Titi had surrendered it as collateral.
