Dynamos Set To Appoint Romanian, Aristica Cioaba, As New Head Coach | Report

Dynamos look set to bring in Romanian coach Aristica Cioaba after suspended boss Genesis Mangombe reportedly failed to show up for his disciplinary hearing.

Mangombe was slapped with a string of charges and suspended following that 1-1 draw away at Highlanders on Sunday.

But while Dynamos were still weighing up his fate, Mangombe is already said to be in talks with Triangle about a return.

Dynamos have gone ahead and applied for a work permit for Cioaba. The Romanian was first pencilled in as a technical adviser, but things have changed. He even turned up at Barbourfields on Sunday, watching from the stands.

Cioaba, 54, holds a UEFA Pro Licence and his CV includes stints in Morocco, Egypt, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman and Ghana.

Dynamos say Mangombe was suspended over pre-match rituals involving “lucky charms” and claims of match-fixing. He allegedly made players bathe in juju before games and is accused of fixing the outcome of at least four competitive matches.

If Cioaba comes in, he will be the sixth different coach at DeMbare since Tonderai Ndiraya left in 2022.

The club has been a revolving door lately – five coaches in just three seasons. Since January 2023 alone, Herbert Maruwa, Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe, Saul Chaminuka, Kelvin Kaindu and Mangombe have all had a go.

It’s a far cry from the Kalisto Pasuwa era. DeMbare have not lifted the league title since 2014, when Pasuwa wrapped up a record fourth championship in a row.

Since then, it has been a parade of coaches – the late David “Yogi” Mandigora, Portuguese coach Paulo Jorge Silva, Lloyd Mutasa and Ndiraya – but no one has managed to bring the glory days back.

Officially, Mangombe is still just suspended. Unofficially, Dynamos already look to be moving on, with Cioaba expected to be unveiled later this week.
