A prominent opposition activist in Gutu has reportedly gone into hiding amid fears of arrest over allegations that he insulted President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
According to Masvingo Mirror, Wilson Run’anga was reported to Gutu Police Station for allegedly undermining the authority of the President in a WhatsApp group, where he is said to have claimed Mnangagwa is clinging to power.
He is also accused of criticising the recall of MPs by Sengezo Tshabangu, saying it has caused widespread suffering.
Although Run’anga has not been formally summoned by police, he is said to have gone into hiding over the Easter holidays after unknown people visited his home in Mpandawana looking for him.
The Masvingo Mirror reports that the complaint was filed by Victor Musarurwa (29) of Old Location, Gutu, under police report number RRB 6776506 dated 28 March 2026.
“Are you aware that there are people insisting that Mnangagwa, despite failing to run the country, wants to cling to power? Are you aware that forcing Tshabangu to recall MPs contributed to the country’s continued suffering?” read the message.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, said he has not yet seen the report.
