David Mnangagwa, a nephew of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been reported to the police for allegedly damaging property at Murairwa Business Centre in Gutu South. The incident followed a fight on Christmas Eve in 2025.
The businessman affected says the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has not acted on the case six months on.
Masvingo Mirror reported sources as saying the case is being brushed aside because police are reluctant to prosecute the son of the President’s brother.
David Mnangagwa is understood to live at President Mnangagwa’s farm in Bikita, around 7km from Murairwa.
According to case number CR163/01/26 filed at Gutu Police Station, David Mnangagwa is said to have used a tractor to demolish a blair toilet, shop veranda, perimeter fence and part of Chimombe Shop at Murairwa.
This allegedly occurred after a man identified only as Thulani hit him with a switch during an altercation.
The bar owner, Talent Mandivenga, confirmed the incident to Masvingo Mirror. His bar is 7km from Roy along the Roy-Gutu Road. He said he has not heard from the police in the six months since it happened and is still counting his losses.
He said David Mnangagwa has not paid for the damage, and his business is struggling. Thulani is said to have since moved to South Africa.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, said he was looking into the matter.
Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba accused the Masvingo Mirror reporter of making “serious allegations against a citizen”.
He said a journalist has no power to make such allegations against David Mnangagwa, and only the police can. He told the reporter to ask the Officer Commanding Masvingo and the complainant to call him.
The bar lady who was allegedly on duty that day, Ester Musara, confirmed the incident but said she no longer lives at the business centre.
It’s alleged that Mnangagwa arrived at the bar driving a tractor. At around 7 pm, he had an argument with Thulani and the two exchanged blows.
Mnangagwa is then said to have assaulted several other patrons in the bar before Thulani hit him with a switch and ran off.
Mnangagwa allegedly threatened to demolish the bar, got into his tractor, and drove it carelessly. He hit the perimeter fence, toilet, shop veranda and the bar before driving away with three unidentified men.
