The Ministry of Health and Child Care has launched a week-long vaccination campaign across Harare Province to address dangerously low immunisation rates for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Tetanus Toxoid (Td) among school-aged children.
The initiative, running from 28 November to 04 December, is being coordinated locally by the Chitungwiza Municipality Health Department.
According to a public notice issued by Chitungwiza Acting Health Services Director H. Chirowodza, the campaign will target girls aged 9 and 10 for HPV vaccination, and boys and girls aged 5 and 10 for Tetanus Toxoid vaccination.
Vaccination teams are visiting primary schools in Chitungwiza to reach eligible children directly.
Health officials warn that low HPV coverage poses a serious risk of cervical cancer later in life, while inadequate Td protection leaves children vulnerable to tetanus infections.
Parents and caregivers are being urged to ensure children attend school during the campaign period to receive their vaccines.
