The Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) will run an integrated Human Papillomavirus and Tetanus-Diphtheria vaccination campaign from 15 to 19 June 2026.

In a public notice, the Chitungwiza Municipality Health Department said the drive is in response to low HPV vaccine uptake among Grade 5 girls reported at health facilities.

“The vaccination drive was necessitated by the low coverage of the HPV vaccine (for girls in grade 5) being reported in health facilities,” reads the statement.

“This will, however, put our young girls at a high risk of contracting Human Papillomavirus in adulthood, thereby increasing the prevalence of cervical cancer among women.

“Being vaccinated with the HPV vaccine reduces the risk of developing cervical cancer.”

All children aged 5 and 10, boys and girls, will be vaccinated against tetanus and diphtheria as part of efforts to eliminate the two diseases.

The TD vaccine protects against serious bacterial infections that can lead to paralysis and death.

The TD drive targets boys and girls aged 5 and 10, while the HPV drive is for girls in Grade 5.
