Sadio Mane Named Caf African Player of the Year

Senegalese footballer Sadio Mane has been named the Confederation of African Football’s (Caf) Player of the Year.

Mane, who plays for Liverpool Football Club in the English Premier League, beat his club team-mate and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez to the award.

The 27-year-old scored 30 goals in all competitions last season. He has scored 15 goals so far in 2019-20.

Mane helped the Reds win three major trophies in the past seven months – the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League title, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.

He collected his award at a ceremony in Hurghada, Egypt but neither Salah, who had won the award in both the past two years nor Mahrez were present.
