Five O’ Level Subjects Including English, Maths For Professional Driver’s Licence

Five O’ Level Subjects Including English, Maths For Professional Driver’s Licence

Essential Tools

Parliament has received a petition from the Drivers’ Association of Zimbabwe (DAZ) calling for the driving profession to be formalised, including minimum educational qualifications and the creation of a legally recognised professional body.

The petitioners want a law that will make five O-Level passes, including English and Mathematics, mandatory for obtaining a professional driving licence in Zimbabwe.

The petition has been referred to the Portfolio Committee on Transport and Infrastructural Development for consideration.

DAZ argues that professionalising the sector will improve accountability and standards in Zimbabwe’s transport sector, which has faced growing calls for reform.

Under the proposal, a statutory professional body would set minimum entry-level educational requirements for drivers, adding academic criteria to the existing licensing process.

The committee is now expected to consider the proposal and make recommendations on whether to proceed with legislation.

The call comes as road carnage has become a major concern, with most accidents blamed on human error.

At present, obtaining a driver’s licence in Zimbabwe does not require any specific educational qualifications beyond passing the driving test.

For what reason do you need 5 0′ levels just to drive you want to create a higher level of unemployed do you think every body has the ability to have 5 O’leves right now you can get some one with 10 distinction and fail to do the job and get some one with zero O’leves and can do the job better

Do you think road Carnage will be reduced by one having Mathematics, What has Mathematics has to do with that. All road users are failing to use Common sense on intersections telling themselves that I have a right of way. We have problems of traffic jams everyday that requires one to use common sense not the qualifications they have. In stead of one practicing courtesy, they create more traffic jam by not observing that we have more cars in Zim than before. Give each other some time..to be patient it’s a character that one must have, not 5 ‘O levels. Do you as a member of DAZ practice this?

There should also be a Pot-hole petition that requires 5 O’levels for weilding a shovel by Road construction workers, abi? Then an A’level certicate to vote for a Masters’ Degree Politician only, and a PhD President, for good measure.

An AI certification for breathing Zimbabwean air is definitely coming in the next 2years. You will say I didn’t tell you; Brain Structural Adjusment is on the cards from the parliament seat.

This is madness. If u you want to reduce the rate of accidents fix the root cause which is our Very Poor roads. The government of Zimbabwe has serious matters to deal with not these petty issues, so DAZ must stop proposing such useless laws to our government. Lets fix our country first✌️

Why this thus being selfish , because some people are talented in driving and you put some prohibition yet some have brought bread and butter through this profession

Pure idiocy….accidents are caused by a combination of negligence, drivers driving while playing with their phones, or while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, corruption (people buy their driving licences), poor training by driving schools, poor traffic management (eg non functioning traffic licences), a totally incompetent Traffic Section in the ZRP – we can even force drivers to get PhD’s (since everyone seems to be getting those degrees these days…) and the road carnage will not be reduced!
