A 62-year-old Chinese quarry boss has been found dead in a river, three weeks after he vanished.

He Xian Ming’s badly decomposed body was pulled from the Tsambe River in Odzi, Manicaland, on Tuesday night.

It brings to an end a three-week search involving police, private investigators and locals.

Ming, who worked as a supervisor at a quarry mine in Odzi, was last seen alive at around 8 pm on 27 July.

Tafadzwa Chidawa, of Matrix Private Investigations & Security, said he was with a sex worker at the time – a woman he had allegedly been introduced to by one of his own employees.

Chidawa said their inquiries found that a row broke out after the pair had sex.

“Our information is that after the sex, the woman demanded money because the deceased had not used protection. She threatened to report him for rape,” Chidawa said.

“There was an altercation and the deceased left the site alone.”

Chidawa said the worker who set up the meeting allegedly told the woman to ask for more cash so he could get a cut.

“Since that night, he was not found until the discovery of his remains in an advanced state of decomposition,” Chidawa said.

Police are still investigating the circumstances around Ming’s death.

Meanwhile, some people in the area suspect foul play or suicide following the alleged threats; investigators have yet to confirm the cause of death.
