Two men suffered serious injuries after being hit by trains in two separate incidents on Monday, 10 August 2026, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has said.
The first incident occurred at Figtree at 1:15 AM, while the second occurred near Ntabeni Primary School in Emakhandeni at 4:50 PM.
In response to the two incidents, the NRZ urged members of the public to stay clear of railway tracks to avoid being hit by trains.
The parastatal “the railway is not a walking path,” and that listening to music or blocking out surrounding sounds can cost lives.
It reminded members of the public that headphones drown out the sound of an approaching train, walking along the railway line or the railway servitude is illegal and extremely dangerous, and trains are heavy and fast and cannot stop quickly to avoid people.
The NRZ has implored the public to stay safe and stay off the tracks. It has advised people not to walk on or along railway lines, to stay off the railway servitude, to remove earphones and stay alert around tracks, and to use designated footpaths and crossings at all times.
“Trains cannot stop instantly,” the NRZ said, adding that every year lives are lost and families are shattered because people ignore the dangers of the railway.
