Police in Bulawayo have seized drugs with an estimated street value of more than US$26,000 after suspects allegedly fled by jumping over a perimeter wall during a raid on a house in Newton West at around 4 am on Sunday.

Officers from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit recovered about 30kg of dagga and hundreds of bottles of the banned BronCleer cough syrup during the operation.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said detectives acted on a tip-off from members of the public that dangerous drugs were being sold from the house.

“On the 2nd of August 2026 at around 0400 hours, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Bulawayo received information that there were persons dealing in dangerous drugs at a house in Newton West, Bulawayo,” she said.

Msebele said detectives had the property under surveillance when they saw the suspects arrive in a white Honda Vezel.

“Detectives approached the accused persons who were by the gate and upon identifying themselves, the accused persons immediately drove into the yard and locked the gate, then bolted from the vehicle and jumped over the durawall and ran into the nearby bush,” she said.

Police searched the house and recovered 36 cobs of dagga weighing about 30kg, 58 boxes each containing 50 x 100ml bottles of BronCleer cough syrup, and a further 447 loose 100ml bottles.

According to police, the drugs were hidden in a spare bedroom and have a combined street value of US$26,429.
