Businesswoman and Hezy Motors Logistics director Hazel Silibaziso Mafu was last week arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing allegations of defrauding scores of people of US$624,000 and ZiG1,275,878.

Mafu is facing fraud charges linked to an elaborate bogus car importation scheme and is expected back in court on Monday, 27 July 2026, for her bail application.

According to prosecutors, the alleged fraud happened over the past four years.

Mafu allegedly advertised vehicle importation services on various platforms and claimed she could import cars on behalf of clients.

Prosecutors say she failed to deliver as agreed in several cases, leaving scores of clients counting their losses, which amount to US$634,000 and ZiG1,275,878. Nothing was recovered.

Mafu is said to have splashed out on her 35th birthday with trips to Paris, Rome, Berlin and Madrid.

In May this year, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) launched a manhunt for Mafu in connection with several fraud cases committed between 2022 and April 2026.

“The suspect, who is the director of Hezy Motors Logistics Private Limited, a company purportedly engaged in the business of importing motor vehicles on behalf of clients, extensively marketed and advertised vehicle importation services through various platforms, including social media, electronic and print media,” said ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

“Through these advertisements, the suspect misrepresented that she had the capacity to source and deliver motor vehicles within specified timeframes at competitive prices.

“Consequently, several Zimbabweans reportedly engaged her and paid varying amounts of money for the purchase and importation of motor vehicles. However, after receiving payment, she allegedly failed to deliver the vehicles.

“So far, a total of 20 complainants who were allegedly defrauded of USD155,211.00 have reported their cases to the police.”
