Police have launched a fresh manhunt for opposition activist Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, for allegedly undermining police authority.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Wednesday that Karembera is wanted in connection with reports of undermining police authority.

He did not disclose what the activist allegedly did, or where and when the offence was said to have occurred.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is seeking information on the location and whereabouts of Madzibaba ‘Veshanduko’- Godfrey Karemba in connection with reports of undermining police authority,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

“Anyone with information should feel free to contact any nearest Police Station or National Complaints Desk number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp number 0712 800 197.”

The latest appeal comes just weeks after Karembera was acquitted in a separate, high-profile case linked to anti-government protests called by the late war veteran Blessed Geza, known as Comrade Bombshell.

Karembera, 47, a staunch supporter of former Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa, has long been known for his yellow regalia and satirical street performances in support of the opposition.

In October 2025, police launched a manhunt for Karembera and an associate, Kudzai Weston Saruwaka, after they allegedly fled during a high-speed chase in Machipisa, Glen View and Budiriro while distributing fliers.

The fliers were linked to the planned “One Million Men March” called by Geza for 17 October 2025 at Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square and Africa Unity Square in Harare, to protest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government over allegations of corruption and poor governance.

Prosecutors alleged that Karembera printed and distributed thousands of fliers bearing messages such as “Stop the looting, Zimbabwe is not for sale” and “7 Billion reasons to march” and later recorded a video encouraging people to attend. Police said about 7,200 fliers were recovered after intercepting a vehicle in Glen View 3.

He was charged with incitement to commit public violence under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and under the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act. His application challenging placement on remand was dismissed, and he remained in custody.

On 3 June 2026, Harare Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki acquitted and discharged Karembera at the close of the State case.

The court found that the State had failed to produce evidence linking Karembera to the offence and had failed to establish a prima facie case. His lawyer, Paida Saurombe of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, said the acquittal ended eight months in prison detention.
