ZANU PF’s Masvingo provincial leadership has begun a push for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2030, reported The Midweek Watch.
The move was announced on the same day the party’s Harare provincial leadership made a similar call.
Speaking at the party’s Masvingo provincial thank you rally for the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Act, 2026, held at Padare Business Centre in Zaka on Sunday, provincial chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa said President Mnangagwa should continue beyond 2030.
Mavhenyengwa said the President had delivered significant signature projects and should be rewarded for his performance by being allowed to remain in power beyond 2030.
“This CAB3 started here in Masvingo after we witnessed meaningful developments spearheaded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” said Mavhenyengwa.
“So, we are saying our President is good at driving the country’s economy; we want him to remain in power, and as a province we are looking for him to remain in office beyond 2030.
“The President has done exceedingly well for this country, so why should we remove him after doing all this good?”
In his remarks at the same event, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, likened Mnangagwa to the biblical Joshua.
Chadzamira said that just as Joshua led the children of Israel into the promised land after the death of Moses, President Mnangagwa was chosen to complete the national development work started by his predecessor, the late former President Robert Mugabe, whom he equated to Moses, and lead the country to prosperity.
“Our Moses was the former President Mugabe who led us to where he left us, and we were given Joshua who is President Mnangagwa,” said Chadzamira.
“Joshua is the only one who led the people to the promised land of Canaan. Joshua did not pass the baton to anyone else
“So President Mnangagwa is our Joshua. He should lead the nation until donkeys grow horns, if that is possible.”
He said President Mnangagwa’s philosophy that “a country is built by its own citizens” and his foreign policy of being a friend to all and an enemy to none should be emulated.
The renewed calls for President Mnangagwa to remain as party leader beyond 2030 are seen as laying the groundwork for another constitutional amendment, potentially Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 4.
Speaking to journalists in Epworth at the weekend after celebrations to mark the passing of CAA3, ZANU PF Harare provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa said that President Mnangagwa should remain party President and First Secretary from 2030 to 2037.
He said while the amendment allows President Mnangagwa to remain in office as President, Commander-in-Chief and Head of Government until 2030 to complete Vision 2030, Harare Province is looking beyond that.
“So we still want him for an additional seven years, from 2030 to 2037. He must lead the party. That is what Harare is saying,” Masimirembwa said.
He said the province will take the resolution to the party’s next conference in Bindura and wants Mnangagwa to remain President and First Secretary at the 2030 Congress.
“For us as Harare Province, we look at a continuum, that beyond 2030, what happens? The President has done exceedingly well for this country,” he said. “So that is the man we want to continue to lead ZANU PF beyond 2030 as its President and First Secretary.”
