Two 19-year-old men have been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment each for separate cases of rape involving juvenile girls.

In the first case, the Gokwe Magistrates’ Court convicted a 19-year-old man from under Chief Njelele for raping his 11-year-old sister.

The court heard that on an unknown date in May 2026 at around 8 pm, the victim was asleep in her bedroom with her young brother.

The offender forcibly opened the door, gaining entry, and sneaked into the victim’s blankets. The victim screamed, but the offender gagged and raped her, leaving the victim in tears.

The following morning, the victim went to school and, upon her return, she gathered the courage to confide in her sister, who immediately accompanied her to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest.

In the second case, the Plumtree Regional Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 19-year-old man to 15 years in prison for raping a 15-year-old Grade 7 pupil.

The court heard that on 2 March 2026 at around 4 pm, the offender pounced on the girl as she was coming home from school. He grabbed her and took her into a nearby bush where he held her overnight and raped her.

He released her the following morning. She went home and reported the matter to her mother, who accompanied her to the police. The offender was arrested and later convicted.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said rape is a serious crime that has long-lasting consequences for victims, and it will continue to ensure that perpetrators of rape and all sexual offences are prosecuted and held accountable.
