The mother of slain UK-based Zimbabwean business executive Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, has spoken for the first time since her daughter and two grandchildren were murdered at their home.

Zandile and her daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, 5, were found dead at their £1.3 million home in Great Denham, Bedfordshire. Post-mortems showed they died from blunt force trauma.

UK police have named her husband, Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, 45, also known as Mark, as the suspect. The couple were reportedly going through a divorce.

Police say he left the UK on 5 July, flying from Heathrow to Johannesburg via Dubai on his British passport, with the bodies discovered the next day after neighbours raised the alarm. He was arrested in South Africa last Friday in possession of a gun and has appeared in court.

Speaking to B-Metro, Zandile’s mother, Velile Khumalo, 76, a retired teacher, said she wished she had told her daughter to leave everything and return home.

“If I had one more chance to talk to her, I would advise her to leave everything and come home,” she said.

Khumalo said she last saw her granddaughters when Nala was still a baby and had been expecting the family to visit Zimbabwe in December. She wants her daughter and grandchildren buried at Luveve Cemetery in Bulawayo.

“My only wish now is that my daughter and grandchildren get buried here in Zimbabwe at Luveve Cemetery,” she said.

“Makhu (Zandile) had the two sweetest daughters ever, my grandchildren. They are all gone, just like that.

“My other daughter has boys. All the girls are now gone.”

Her family said they have been hurt by online speculation about the tragedy and have asked the public and journalists to let them grieve in peace. They have approached the police in Bulawayo for help dealing with the social media posts.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

Tshuma is not a seasoned criminal but I suspect something had happened which he could not hold. He did not run away but wanted to meet family members and let go the burden which no criminal could do.
