The lowest-paid worker in Zimbabwe’s mining sector will now earn at least US$418 a month under a new wage deal.

The new minimums are contained in the National Employment Council for the Mining Industry circular, following wage talks between the Associated Mine Workers Union of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union and the Chamber of Mines.

The agreement covers 1 January to 31 December 2026 and was reached on 9 July 2026, pending registration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Services.

Under the deal, Grade 1 workers will get US$418, Grade 6 will get US$465, and Grade 7 will get US$484, while top grades will earn US$911 for Grade 12 and US$971 for Grade 13.

The structure is subject to review depending on economic conditions and retains exemption provisions.

Non-foreign currency generating mines with approval can pay the full amount in ZiG at the RBZ interbank rate, while foreign currency generators will pay the full amount in US dollars.
