Police cordoned off the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) offices in Harare ahead of the organisation’s national leadership meeting on Wednesday, 15 July. As a result, party leaders failed to access the premises.

NCA leader Lovemore Madhuku said his party offices were sealed off by police on Wednesday morning.

“Today, the regime deployed over 50 police officers at the NCA Head Office to block the holding of a leadership meeting, but it FAILED in its tracks,” wrote Madhuku on X.

“The NCA meeting proceeded at a venue unknown to the oppressors. We recommitted ourselves to stopping the CAA3 agenda. We will win.”

“CAA3” was in reference to the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Act, 2026 (signed into law by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on July 7, 2026).

The law removes direct election of the President by the public; the President will now be elected by a joint sitting of Parliament. It also extends the terms of office for the President, the Senate and the National Assembly from five to seven years, among other changes.

Earlier this year, suspected State security agents allegedly broke into NCA offices and assaulted Madhuku and other party members in what was believed to be an attempt to disrupt meetings opposing Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.
