A teacher in Headlands, Manicaland, lost her four-year-old daughter in unusual circumstances last Wednesday after the child collapsed and died while walking home with her siblings.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident.

He said the mother, who was walking ahead of the children, was alerted by another child when her daughter collapsed.

“On July 8, 2026, at Berthel Cop Business Centre in Kubatana, Headlands, Juliet Mashereni, a woman aged 36, was walking from Gazaland Private College, where she works as a teacher, to her home at Kubatana Business Centre with her three children aged 6 years, 4 years and 1 year seven months respectively,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

“About a few metres from their home, her six-year-old child called out to her that her four-year-old daughter had collapsed.

“She saw her lying on the ground on her stomach, unconscious. The mother tried to lift her while calling her to no avail.

“She informed her husband, and they rushed the girl to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“A report was made to ZRP Headlands, and police attended the scene. The body was conveyed to Rusape General Hospital mortuary, awaiting post-mortem. Investigations are in progress.”
