A woman who has been living in the open for the past seven days near Mt Pleasant Post Office in Harare says her daughters are now being targeted by predators seeking to sexually abuse them.
Nyarai Dimingo, 39, became homeless after her employer sold his Westgate property, where she had worked as a maid since 2012.
Her four children — aged 8, 11, 13 and 19 — have not attended school since 2024. The youngest is a boy, while the other three are girls.
She says the girls face constant threats from drunken youths and adult men who are targeting them for sex.
“During the night, drunken street kids and some men have been threatening the girls,” said Dimingo.
“They offer them money, not for help, but in exchange for sexual favours.”
Residents with houses near the shopping centre told H-Metro that the men wanted to exploit the girls.
Dimingo says her daughters face constant threats from drunken youths and adult men who are targeting them for sex.
She revealed that she separated from her husband, Nolan Eleven, in 2019. For years, they both worked in Westgate — she as a housemaid and he as a gardener.
“I left Westgate with a few belongings, including one blanket, and we have been sleeping outside,” she said.
“We moved to Mt Pleasant Post Office because the street kids started to torment us during the night.
“Drunkards are also making our lives unbearable. We are now relying on well-wishers for food.”
She pleaded for any form of employment, saying she is prepared to work as a housemaid, till operator, or anything else available.
