A Chiredzi man arrested on Tuesday after allegedly appearing in a viral video criticising President Emmerson Mnangagwa and businessman Wicknell Chivayo over the demolition of vendors’ stalls in the town has been granted bail.

Tafadzwa Matanhuse, 32, was given US$200 bail by Chiredzi Magistrate Tendai Mutamba on Thursday afternoon.

The magistrate ruled that Matanhuse was a suitable candidate for bail despite the State’s objections.

State prosecutor Moreblessing Rusere had opposed bail, arguing that Matanhuse was likely to abscond and interfere with witnesses.

Mutamba ordered Matanhuse to pay US$200 bail, keep living at his given address and report every Wednesday at ZRP Chiredzi.

Matanhuse is being represented by human rights lawyer Martin Mureri and will be back in court on 9 July for trial.
