A Chiredzi vendor arrested on Tuesday is appealing for financial help to get back on his feet after losing all his stock in recent demolitions.
Tafadzwa Matanhuse was arrested after allegedly appearing in a viral video criticising President Emmerson Mnangagwa and businessman Wicknell Chivayo over the demolition of vendors’ stalls in the town.
He was granted US$200 bail by Chiredzi Magistrate Tendai Mutamba on Thursday and is due back in court on 9 July for trial.
Matanhuse said he’s deeply grateful to fellow vendors and to Zimbabweans for the overwhelming support shown to him during this difficult time.
Chiredzi Central MP Blessing Ropafadzo Makumire (CCC) made the financial appeal on his behalf, saying all of Matanhuse’s tomatoes were destroyed in the demolitions, leaving him with nothing.
“I’m not someone who is easily angered, but what I said was out of deep frustration after losing everything I had worked for,” Matanhuse told Makumire during a phone call on Friday morning.
The MP added that he now has no capital to restart his business. On top of losing his stock, much of his savings has gone on legal fees and bail-related expenses.
“If you are in a position to assist him as he rebuilds his livelihood, you can send your contribution via EcoCash to 0776450770, registered in the name of Nelton Matanhuse,” said Makumire.
“Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference.”
