Former CCC MP Amos Chibaya has filed a police report after receiving an anonymous death threat linked to a political meeting planned for Sunday, 21 June.

In a report lodged at Milton Park Police Station under RRB number 6797835, Chibaya said he was sent a message warning him not to proceed with the gathering.

The message, in Shona, read: “Chimeeting chamuri kuronga chamangwana chikangoitwa uri kutsvira mumba” — loosely translated as “the meeting you are planning for tomorrow, if you go ahead with it, you will be burnt in your house”.

Chibaya said he now fears for his life.

The meeting was due to discuss the country’s political situation amid rising tensions over the controversial Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3).

Several opponents of the Bill, including National Constitutional Assembly leader Lovemore Madhuku, have recently been attacked by unknown assailants.
