The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has commended Highlanders and Dynamos supporters for maintaining peace during Sunday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash at Barbourfields Stadium.
There were no incidents of violence or hooliganism before, during or after the match, even after Highlanders were awarded a first-half penalty to open the scoring.
The fixture, popularly known as the “Battle of Zimbabwe”, ended in a 1-1 draw. In the past, it has been marred by crowd trouble, often sparked by disputed refereeing decisions.
In a statement on Monday, 22 June, the ZRP praised the conduct of both sets of fans, as well as officers deployed for the game.
“The ZRP commends soccer fans for the cooperation and discipline they displayed during the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC at Barbourfields Stadium on 21 June 2026,” reads the statement.
“The police officers deployed for the match showed professionalism and exemplary conduct in maintaining law and order.
“Their performance reflected both local and international best practices in the policing of high-profile soccer matches, contributing to a safe, secure and peaceful environment throughout the event.”
Towards the end of the first half, young Bosso forward Mongameli Tshuma latched onto a loose ball, surged past Isaac Landu and Clive Mandivei, and was brought down inside the box by the latter.
Referee Brighton Chimene pointed straight to the spot, and Benjamin Adeogun made no mistake from 12 yards.
In the second half, veteran Dynamos midfielder Perfect Chikwende won possession on the left, skipped past a cluster of Highlanders defenders and squared for Frank Agyemang, who fired home with his right foot to level the scores.
