Wicknell Chivayo has hit back at former Norton MP Temba Mliswa after Mliswa accused him of bribing legislators to back the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.
Chivayo, who recently gave CCC proportional representation MP Samantha Mureyani a 2026 Toyota Fortuner and US$50,000 for supporting CAB3, said Mliswa had no right to lecture him on how to spend his money.
“Makadiiko nhai Sabhuku?” Chivayo opened with a long Facebook post, mocking Mliswa’s traditional title.
“Chekutanga, manga mapedza here kutonga nyaya dzese dzekumusha kwenyu?… Matare anga apera here zvekuti mava kuwana nguva yekuda kupindira nyaya dzeku kuno ku Harare nekuita sabhuku in my life?(First of all, had you finished handling all the cases from your rural home?… Are you done presiding over cases that you now have time to interfere in Harare matters and act like a village head in my life?”
He said Mliswa’s criticism was “none of your business”.
“You have no basis to give me a lengthy lecture on what I should or should not do with my money. I am a mere philanthropist, and I love helping and recognising people that I think deserve my recognition,” Chivayo wrote.
“Your abrasive and condescending comments… are clearly out of desperation to remain relevant, given your long vanished political status.”
Mliswa had argued ZANU-PF already has 194 MPs, well above the 187 needed to pass CAB3, making Chivayo’s gifts “theatrical gimmicks” that taint the process.
Chivayo agreed on the numbers, but used them to defend himself.
“You are correct that ZANU PF possesses more than sufficient numbers to pass #CAB3… If I get impressed by an MP’s unapologetic support for #CAB3 and President E.D. Mnangagwa, and personally choose to reward him or her, where is the problem?” he asked.
“How does that become ‘bribery’ as you allege, if the MP is already openly in support of #CAB3 and rewarded after. If the outcome is already secured… why does my appreciation… suddenly become a national emergency requiring public intervention from you sabhuku?”
He insisted: “I am not the architect behind #CAB3. I am not a politician, and I have absolutely no aspirations of becoming one. I am an ordinary card-carrying member of ZANU PF who supports the party and its leadership. Nothing more. Nothing less.”
Chivayo said his giving was voluntary and random. “If I wake up tomorrow morning, open Facebook or Twitter and come across a video, a story or an achievement that impresses me… I solely reserve the right to celebrate that person in the way I feel best fitting.”
He claimed several high-profile figures had turned down his offers — “Mrs Guti from ZAOGA, President of ZIFA Magwizi and even Prophet Makandiwa and his wife” — and he had moved on without issue.
“Philanthropy is voluntary… Anoda anotambira murudo rwa Mwari, asingadi anoramba hake, and I move on to the next. The waiting list is too long. Why should you decide for them?”
“You were rejected by your own constituencies in Hurungwe and Norton. You are nothing more than a pale image of your former self. Now you want to find relevance on social media using my name,” he wrote.
He accused Mliswa of running down businesses: “Saltlakes Tobacco is now a defunct and insolvent company despite being a well-performing company when you grabbed it. Paul Westwood still tweets till today about you and how you stole his company, Noshio Motors, and Benbar, then subsequently failed to run them.”
“The farm you were given through the Land Reform program with over 4,000 pedigree cattle rangove sango with less than 25 goats because of being poorly run… Dzikamai Sabhuku, in terms of my business acumen, aptitude and intelligence quotient, I am far ahead of you.”
In the most striking revelation, Chivayo said he had personally bought Mliswa a car.
“I am actually surprised that you now appear to take a strong position against accepting my gratuity, yet recently you graciously accepted the Ford Raptor I paid cash USD107,000 which I bought you,” he wrote.
“Out of pity for your circumstances, being out of politics, without a job or public office and with limited income, I chose to just appreciate your feisty debates during your tenure in Parliament.”
“Now, before you’ve even reached 5,000 km on the clock here you are, envious of others whose efforts are being recognised now, alleging that my goodwill is bribery.”
He ended with a warning: “I will remain undeterred. I will recognise whoever I want to, in a way I so please and whenever I see it necessary. It’s my money, MY CHOICE!!! Ibvai pazvinhu zvevanhu sabhuku!!!”
