Wicknell Chivayo has rewarded CCC proportional representation MP for Manicaland, Samantha Mureyani, for backing the controversial Constitutional Amendment Bill (CAB3).

Mureyani, appointed to Parliament in 2024 by Sengezo Tshabangu, publicly supported CAB3 during debate in the National Assembly, arguing that electing a president through Parliament would reduce violence and instability.

“Direct presidential elections have historically bred political tension, violence, and fiscal exhaustion,” Mureyani said.

“Electing the President, Madam Speaker, through parliament is a model successfully used by our neighbours in South Africa and Botswana.

“It drastically reduces election costs and fosters harmony between the executive and legislature.

Mureyani also backed the clause extending the presidential term from five to seven years, arguing that major development projects need stability and that five years is too short.

Mureyani was heckled by opposition MPs and clapped by ZANU PF legislators during the debate.

Posting on social media on Friday, Chivayo told Mureyani to collect a brand-new 2026 Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD6 — “any colour of your choice” — and US$50,000 in cash for constituency development from Exquisite Motors.

Mureyani is the second CCC MP to receive a car and cash directly from Chivayo. Budiriro North MP Susan Matsunga was earlier given a brand-new 2026 Toyota Fortuner 4×4 2.4 GD6 and US$50,000 to be channelled towards community development and empowering youth and women in Budiriro North.

Chivayo said that the gift was in recognition of Matsunga’s “political maturity” after she publicly praised President Emmerson Mnangagwa during the handover of boreholes under the Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme in Mufakose, calling him “Daddy” and thanking ZANU-PF for the water projects.
