Police have confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the lives of six people along the Harare–Bulawayo highway on Monday, 25 May 2026.
According to a brief statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the crash occurred at the 223-kilometre peg near the Redcliff turn-off at 5:45pm, when a Honda Fit and a haulage truck collided.
The police have not yet clarified how many casualties there were in each vehicle, whether all the deceased were in the Honda Fit, or what caused the crash. It remains unclear whether an overtaking error or another factor was to blame.
The accident happened just two days after eight Roman Catholic Church members died when a Toyota Noah fell off the Deka River Bridge near Hwange.
The victims were returning from night prayers at St John’s Makwa Mission when the vehicle struck the bridge’s concrete barriers and toppled over at around 7am on Saturday.
