Wicknell Chivayo has gifted a Toyota Aqua and US$5,000 in cash to content creator and digital comedian Mr Ridhikurasi, real name Brighton Muchayabande, and his colleague.
Mr Ridhikurasi, whose stage name is a Shona adaptation of the English word “ridiculous”, is widely known for his short skits, street-style comedy and poetic social commentary, mostly produced in Shona.
Unlike some artists who received gifts from Chivayo after asking him directly or unexpectedly, Mr Ridhikurasi and his colleague caught Chivayo’s attention by mimicking a video of him getting a haircut.
While Chivayo said he found Mr Ridhikurasi’s skit amusing, he raised concerns about his voice, saying he would have given him a vehicle and cash if not for that. He then asked his followers to decide whether Mr Ridhikurasi should receive the gifts.
Most of Chivayo’s followers urged him to give the comedian the car and cash, but he appeared to forget about the “poll” until another digital content creator, Ethias, reminded him.
“Apologies, MUKOMA ETHY, I genuinely forgot, I have great respect for the views from the COMMENT SECTION… Vese vari two ngavaenda ne Tuesday vanopihwa ma Aqua avo na Madzibaba Chipaga ne 5000 usd each…,” wrote Chivayo on social media over the weekend.
Some of the comedians who have received cars from Chivayo are Admire Kuzhangaira (popularly known as Bhutisi), his comedy partner Kedha, veteran comedian Kapfupi (Freddy Manjalima), and MaVery. All four were gifted Toyota Aqua vehicles in April 2024.
Chivayo framed some of these gifts as rewards for loyalty and contributions to ZANU PF’s messaging.
