The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced that fuel prices will remain unchanged in its latest monthly review.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, 20 May, ZERA said the price of Diesel (50) will stay at US$2.09 per litre, while Blend (E20) petrol remains at US$2.08 per litre. The prices are effective 20 May 2026.
“The prices remain unchanged, as Government interventions continue to cushion consumers from global geopolitical effects,” read the notice.
“The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio is at E20. Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.”
Global fuel and crude oil prices surged in the first half of 2026, primarily driven by a massive geopolitical crisis in the Middle East.
After starting the year relatively low, benchmark oil prices (like Brent and WTI) crossed the $100 per barrel mark.
The conflict, involving the United States, Israel and Iran, led to a blockade and de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow yet highly strategic waterway that serves as the world’s most critical chokepoint for oil.
Because the Strait handles roughly 20% to 35% of the world’s seaborne energy supplies, the blockade effectively cut off an enormous portion of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments.
