Serial rapist Anymore Zvitsva, from Guruve, has been sentenced to an effective 89 years in prison after pleading guilty to 10 counts of rape, attempted murder and robbery.
The sentence, handed down by Harare Magistrate Francis Mapfumo, brought an end to a series of violent crimes committed in Guruve and shocked the nation.
In passing sentence, Magistrate Mapfumo said the court had weighed both mitigating and aggravating factors. Zvitsva, 35, has two children aged 11 and 12 who live with their mother. He pleaded guilty, saving the court time.
However, the magistrate noted that Zvitsva was not a first offender. He had previously served a 48-month sentence in Guruve.
The court found that he deliberately targeted vulnerable victims who had no one to help them and that the crimes were carefully planned.

- Count 2: 7 years’ imprisonment
Counts 1 and 2 to run concurrently - Count 3: 12 years’ imprisonment
