In a surprising turn, Wicknell Chivayo has offered a Toyota Aqua and US$10,000 to a Dynamos fan who asked him to donate a bus to the football club.

The unnamed fan made the request during a phone-in when Chivayo appeared on a Capitalk FM interview hosted by Phathisani Sibanda.

Posting on his social media pages on Saturday, 16 May, Chivayo said he was still waiting for registration details for the Dynamos bus. He added that he will hand over a US$50,000 bonus for the players at the same time as the bus.

He was responding to a video shared by Dynamos owner Bernard Marriot Lusengo, who thanked him for “what he has done for the club.”

During the Capitalk FM appearance, Chivayo offered the 30 employees at the Zimpapers-owned station US$1,000 each “for lunch”.

He said he handed over US$30,000 to the station’s manager, Comfort Mbofana. However, it later emerged that Zimpapers’ policy bars employees from receiving gifts worth more than US$100.

As a result, Chivayo demanded the extra US$27,000 back. He now says he will offer the workers a US$2,000 loan each instead.

Chivayo explained that the loan will be interest-free, repayable over 10 years, with a five-year grace period.

“This means they will only start paying me back in 2031, and their monthly instalment will be 33 dollars for 10 years till 2036. This is a very small transaction, so no security is required, and no loan agreement will be signed. If any of them are interested, they can advise PHATHISANI, and I will mobilise the funds and hand it over to them outside working hours and work premises,” wrote Chivayo.
