Four men have been arrested in connection with a string of house break-ins across Masvingo that netted property worth more than US$14,000.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest of Peace Mandizvidza, 32, Edward Sibanda, 27, Tapiwa Tagwirei, 27, and Kumbulani Sibanda, 25. The suspects are linked to 10 cases of unlawful entry and theft committed between December 2025 and April 2026.

According to the ZRP, the group targeted residential properties when owners were away. They broke in and stole household goods, including electrical appliances such as television sets and refrigerators, as well as blankets and other items.

Police say property valued at $14,330 was stolen during the spree. So far, officers have recovered goods worth $10,305, including two television sets, a deep freezer, blankets and other items.

The four suspects are assisting police with investigations and are expected to appear in court soon.

To protect your home from burglaries, police advise making basic security a habit. Always lock your doors, windows and burglar bars, even if you’re only stepping out for a few minutes. Many break-ins happen during brief absences when criminals take advantage of easy access.

Try not to advertise when your home is empty. Avoid posting travel plans or holiday photos on social media until you return.

Good lighting also helps deter thieves. Install sensor lights outside, or simply leave a lamp on inside when you go out at night. A well-lit home looks occupied and makes it harder for burglars to approach unnoticed.

Getting to know your neighbours can make a real difference. Join or set up a neighbourhood watch group and share information about suspicious activity. Criminals are less likely to target areas where residents look out for one another.

Finally, keep a record of your valuables. Note down the serial numbers of electronics and take clear photos of expensive items. If stolen goods are recovered, this makes it far easier for police to return them to you.
