Zimbabwean Men Are Cowards. They Complain In Private, But Comply In Public

I watched a Workers’ Day video that left me completely shocked. A presenter, simply for expressing views seen as critical of ZANU-PF, had his microphone snatched from his hands. It was not just an act of political intolerance. It was an act of humiliation.

But what was completely embarrassing was not the man who grabbed the microphone.

It was the men who did nothing. Kugara kuti ZETE, Zi.

Grown men stood by. Watching. Silent. Motionless. Not one stepped forward. Not one objected. Not one said, “This is wrong. Kupusa”

In my mind, at that moment, something far greater than a microphone was taken. A piece of our dignity, as Zimbabwean men, was stripped away.

What has happened to us?

We are a nation of men who endure everything. We complain in private, but comply in public. We see injustice, but convince ourselves it is not our fight. We shake our heads, then carry on as if nothing happened.

We pay for radio licences on vehicles imported from Japan, vehicles whose radios often cannot even function properly in Zimbabwe, and we say nothing. We accept policies that insult our intelligence, and we adapt instead of resisting.

This is not resilience. This is surrender.

Zimbabwean man, this is your moment of reflection.

Your children are watching. Your daughters are learning what a man tolerates. Your sons are learning what a man allows.

If you cannot stand up when a fellow citizen is silenced in front of you, then when will you stand up?
If you cannot speak when something is clearly wrong, when will your voice matter?

Courage is not found in comfort. It is revealed in moments like these, small, ordinary moments where a man decides, “Enough.”

I am asking you to fight, I am asking you to fight for what’s right. A call for backbone. For principle. For presence.

Zimbabwe does not need perfect men. It needs men who are willing to stand, to speak and to refuse to normalise humiliation and fear.

The silence must end. And it must end with you.
