The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has removed 6,284 deceased people from the voters’ roll, in line with the Electoral Act.

The list of those removed was published by ZEC chief elections officer Simbarashe Tongai in General Notice 609 of 2026. It appeared in an Extraordinary Government Gazette on Friday.

“It is hereby notified, in terms of Section 33(4) as read with Section 27(1) of the Electoral Act, that voter registration officers have reason to believe that the persons whose names are listed in the First Schedule, and who were registered as voters for the constituencies, wards and polling stations listed therein, have died.

“The names of those persons will be removed from the voters’ roll unless notice of appeal is given to ZEC,” Tongai said.

He said any voter who is alive but appears on the list has seven days from the date of publication to lodge an objection with ZEC, either at its headquarters in Harare or at the relevant provincial offices.
