A 44-year-old man from Chikangwe, Karoi, has been jailed for 12 months after stealing a vendor’s stock worth US$90.

Winners Mukangaza was convicted of theft at Karoi Magistrates’ Court last week.

The court heard that the complainant, a 32-year-old vendor from Westview, Karoi, left her goods locked in a fenced area at Swift Complex on the evening of 11 April. She returned the next morning to find snacks, biscuits, soft drinks and two cooler boxes missing.

The stolen items included nine mega snacks, eight packs of biscuits, several bottles of Mirinda and two cooler boxes.

On 13 April, a witness was found with one of the cooler boxes. Police inquiries led them to Ringo Leisure Night Club the same day, where Mukangaza was arrested. All the stolen property was recovered.

The magistrate sentenced Mukangaza to eight months in prison for the theft. Another four-month sentence, suspended from a previous conviction, was also activated. He will serve 12 months in total.
