An 18-year-old man from Odzi, Manicaland Province, has died in a suspected suicide after a family dispute over missing money.

Leyson Tawananyasha Kunjenjema, of Ndemera Farm, Romeo, was at home on 26 April 2026 at about 10 am with his mother, Naome Kunjenjema, 55, and his sister, Marvelous Kunjenjema, 31.

While cleaning her bedroom, Naome found that US$460 was missing from her cash box. She asked both children about the money, but they said they did not know where it was.

Shortly afterwards, Leyson went to his bedroom and shut the door. When his sister went to check on him, she found him hanging from a roof beam.

The family attempted first aid before taking him to Old Mutare Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident was reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police in Odzi. The body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

Police said a note believed to have been written by Leyson was recovered at the scene, but it did not contain clear information. Investigations are continuing.

Manicaland’s acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the details to The Midweek Watch.
