A Bulawayo man, Herbert Pasipanodya, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of culpable homicide for the death of his partner, Dorothy De Souza, whose body was discovered buried in a shallow grave at his residence in July 2025.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Pasipanodya was initially charged with murder but was found guilty of culpable homicide after the court determined that he acted under serious provocation.

The court heard that Pasipanodya discovered the deceased engaged in a sexual act with another man, leading to a violent confrontation that resulted in her death.

Medical evidence presented during the trial confirmed that De Souza died from blunt force trauma, consistent with a history of domestic violence between the two.

The court also took into account Pasipanodya’s attempt to conceal the crime by burying the body and misleading witnesses as aggravating factors.

In addition to the 10-year sentence, Pasipanodya will serve an extra three months’ imprisonment from a previously suspended sentence.
